@aciquestion
I have been with my husband for 28 years. I am a successful doctor and health leader. I cannot tell you how blissfully happy I am. By all means come visit some time
I want to reassure all the trans community, their families and carers that despite the political rhetoric of the last few days you will always receive the care you require where best meets your needs. You are and will always be valued and respected
@NHS_NELondon
@will_carver
We have Torti in a box with straw and the Sunday Times in the shed. My husband’s family received him as a present 65 years ago, we have had him for 20 years. It is still a joy each year to see him up and about!
I am many things. Son. Brother. Uncle. Catholic. Doctor. Psychiatrist. Medical Manager. Chief Medical Officer. Executive Director. Lover. Husband. Gay. Cis Man. These all make me who I am but most of all I am PROUD!
#PRIDE2020
I find this so sad to read. I am Chief Medical Officer
@NHS_ELFT
am a gay man and been with my husband for 26 years. My sexual orientation is an important part of me but not my only defining feature. I am a son. A brother. A friend. A doctor. But most of all I am PROUD to be me
This sums up Pride for me.
#Pride2018
marching down Regent Street with
@ELFT_LGBTQ
and the bus. I was just appointed CMO. I had been married 12 years and been with my husband for 26 years. I never thought as an 18 year old that any of this was possible in my lifetime
#Pride
🙏🙏
#TransRightsAreHumanRights
in the past couple of weeks I have been shocked at how poor
@NHSuk
is in providing basis health services for our trans community. Waiting lists not for weeks or months but years. Is is a shocking and shameful state of affairs
Sadly after 10 wonderful years
@NHS_ELFT
I am leaving to take up the post of Chief Medical Officer
@NELHCP
. I will still be working to improve the quality of life for our local residents in East London through coproduction
#OnwardsAndUpwards
I have sadly read tonight the report by
@BenInLDN
and the response by
@EHRC
. To all my trans colleagues and friends we are with you as
#TransAllies
. We are with you in
@NHSEngland
never be afraid. We are standing with you.
This is me being vaccinated by the wonderful Carole. To all staff
@NHS_ELFT
please make sure you get booked in for your vaccine. I want to make sure all of you and your families are protected and that you can continue to provide safe high quality care for our service users!
I came out when HIV was just starting to surface. My early adulthood was lived in an environment of fear in the LGBT+ community. I have lost many friends along the way❤️❤️❤️. We have come me so far today
#WorldAIDSDay2019
but we still have a long way to go.
#DoNotForget
🙏🙏🙏
Sometimes important just to call out the wind beneath my wings. Last year has been really hard for all of us but I would never have survived without Tim being there beside me. You have supported me and given me so much energy to give to others. Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏
#NHSHero
Challenge today
@NHS_ELFT
. I am a gay man but as a white male doctor I am still very much a person of privilege and I see that in my daily work. I can see and hear when women or BAME or disabled or other LGBT+ are treated differently. I have to call it out and stand up!
So! This is my first day as Chief Medical Officer for East London Integrated Care System. An opportunity to make a difference in the quality of life for our residents innNorth East London
@NELHCP
PRIDE? I find it difficult to explain. 50 years ago as a child I was ashamed of who I was. As a teenager I was told God loves the sinner but not the sin and I was banished. As a medical student I did not think life as a successful doctor and being gay was compatible
We started out at Ramsgate at 11am. We managed to cycle to Broadstairs, Margate, herne Bay and finishing in Whitstable with fish n chips. Now train home and a well earned bath
#SelfCare
#Excercise
#MeTime
Just found this photograph from last year
@PrideInLondon
. First year for
@NHS_ELFT
@ELFT_LGBTQ
. I cannot remember in my life feeling so proud. This year is going to be bigger and better! Bring it on!
There is a strong argument for swabbing NHS staff who are self isolating due to
#COVID19
. The knowledge that you have been positive and built resistance gives confidence in working with our service users who may be positive for
#COVID19
.
This August I have worked in
#NHS
for 30 years. Today must be one of the highlights of my career. Seeing our staff
@NHS_ELFT
come to
#VaccinationCentre
to protect themselves, their families, our service users, cater and our communities made me super proud
#Humble
#ProudCMO
I am so sad tonight watching what has happened in Christchurch in the last 24 hours. Working in East London I want to extend to our Muslim Brothers and Sisters our support and our solidarity. We are with you
@NHS_ELFT
and we will conquer
#OnwardsAndUpwards
Hurrah! At the end of an eight day stretch. We have moved to seven day a week working
@NHS_ELFT
Execs. I now have three days off. The last eight have flown by so quickly. A rollercoaster ride and now feel emotionally exhausted.
#Selfcare
#SaveLivesStayHome
I am not sure disappointment is the right word. I have to abstain from sex with my husband for three month? How long do promiscuous single heterosexual men have to abstain from sex before they are able to donate?
@jkbmedic
@drgilluley
@245bored
Under the current guidelines, men must wait three months after having oral or anal sex with another man. We appreciate this deferral can feel disappointing if you want to save lives. 2/3
Last three days off work. Time to read, reflect, share time with my husband.
#SelfCare
is important at this time. Make sure you take time to look after yourself❤️❤️❤️
I’m shocked in the last 24 hours in seeing how cruel people can be on social media. We are all different. We have different views. Respect and dignity is something every person should be given. Kindness cost nothing. Please show some respect!
#StopIt
A challenging day at work
@NHS_ELFT
. Having difficult conversation with our staff
#GeorgeFloyd
#BlackLivesMatter
and acknowledging the distress and anger in our black staff, service users and communities. We need to support each other through this 1/2
What a powerful day! Started the day
@NHS_ELFT
with senior leaders and a discussion on “What does it mean to be white?”. I am 53 years old and this is the first time I have ever considered what being white means to me! I know what it means to be a man! Gay! Scottish! Catholic!
Before I go off can I say a huge thank you to all my followers who have been a great support and source of advice this year. 2019 has been a special year for me and I have learnt and grown a huge amount. Looking forward to sharing 2020 with you with more learning and sharing
A sad farewell today to my great friend
@NavinaEvans
. This woman has given me such opportunity to grow as a leader. An inclusive leader who is the biggest
#LGBTQAlly
. We will always love
@ELFT_LGBTQ
. You will always be welcome on our bus ❤️❤️❤️
I cannot tell you how proud I am of being one of this lot.
@NHS_ELFT
@ELFT_LGBTQ
today was beyond PROUD! We have such special staff and service users. That take it above and beyond in so many ways. THANK YOU
We started today vaccinating our Vaccination Centre Staff
@NHS_ELFT
. Keep you eye out for your invitation to book a vaccination slot for staff. Starting with clinically vulnerable staff and over 60s.
#WeAreOnIt
What have I learnt this week
@NHS_ELFT
? Firstly things are changing rapidly and we have to be flexible to respond to these changes. Secondly I have learnt more in the last week than I have in the last year. Thirdly our move to digital and the pace of the move has been phenomenal
#GirlsOnTheEdge
why are we keeping young girls who harm themselves in secure units behind high fences? I agree they need a high level of care but secure?
Lot of discussion in my meeting today
@NHS_ELFT
about getting ready for a mental health surge as we reduce lockdown. Mental health in our service users as we get more direct contact but also in our populations that we serve. Cannot forget our staff in this too.
Dear Twitter. I have the most emotional day leaving
@NHS_ELFT
. Reading some tweets tonight have made me even more emotional so I am saying goodnight and will update you with a clear head in the morning
I sat down tonight and plucked up the courage to read this virtual card following me leaving
@NHS_ELFT
.What kind and compassionate people I had the privilege to have worked with. You have over the past 10 yrs given me so much and I will always remain in your debt 🙏❤️🙏❤️
A1 being a white middle class man in a position of power and authority it can be often difficult to understand what concessions our staff have to face that do not come from my background. I therefor have to make sure I listen to the experience of others
#ProudLeadership
Inspiration speaking today
@NavinaEvans
and the challenges of being a CEO in the NHS. The fact that she is one of only three NHS CEOs who are BME is shocking. Talked of the power of a board which embraces diversity.
#NationalComingOutDay
I think the hardest part for me was coming out to myself. Owning who I am as a gay man and that I could be happy was a journey. You are worth it! Always remember that ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I buried a very close friend yesterday. He died suddenly following a freak accident. He was 54 years old. It has given me a jolt into reality and made me realise I should live every day to the full
#humbled
#YouJustDontKnow
Sad to hear of the death of one of our service users today
@NHS_ELFT
who had been known to services for many years. Likely natural causes but huge impact on our staff and other service users. Service users are part of our
@NHS_ELFT
family and their loss cuts deep.
Great news tonight. My mother has revived her appointment for first vaccination. Father although older and shielding is still waiting for his but we will get there 🙏🙏🙏Thank you
@NHSLanarkshire
Real challenges
#COVID19
working with detained service users who refuse to self isolate on non positive wards. Staff
@NHS_ELFT
however maintaining compassion whilst ensuring safety of others
#WeWillGetThroughThisTogether
So I’m just finishing up and ready to go into Twitter Silence for two weeks during the holidays. I have a wedding tomorrow then Tim and I are off the Nice until 4th January so I’m signing off this channel.
It has been a very dark day. My thoughts to all those
@NHS_ELFT
our staff, our service users , our residents who have connections to the Ukraine. This is a difficult time and we are here for you ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏
APOLOGIES to all who tweeted me and got no response! I took two weeks MedTweet free on holiday. Now back an ready to start new challenge as Chief Medical Officer for North East London Integrated Care System
@NELHCP
on Friday
#ComeAboard
As a junior doctor I cleverly changed pronouns to hide who I was dating. Today I am proud of what I have achieved. I have been with my husband for thirty years and he has been my total rock through thick and thin!I am satisfied what I have achieved professionally
As a white man of privilege it makes me feel very difficult that I have no answers to the despair and anger. I cannot however stand by and not acknowledge it
#BlackLivesMatter
@elft_bame
@NHS_ELFT
This has been such a tough week. Total emotional rollercoaster. I impressed by all our staff
@NHS_ELFT
who are making sure service users are cared for as safely as possible. They also look out for each other and are pulling together to support each other
#NHSheroes
#ELFTPromise
Chuffed today that we have appointed two
#ClinicalLeads
for Environmental Sustainability snd Climate Emergency
@NHS_ELFT
. This is a game changer. Cannot wait till they start in January 2022!
We need to continue to amplify the voices of our
#LGBTQ
community who are not heard. We have achieved much but we have much much more to do HAPPY PRIDE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just got back from a week leave in West Wales where not only did I have time to do lots of walking and reading but also lots of time to sit silently and reflect! Our own mental health is important. We need time and space
#WellBeing
#MyDowntime
#LookAfterYou
The end to a wonderful evening that I will never forget.
#ELFTawards
what a phenomenal group of people!!! I am so lucky to work with people who want to and do make a difference
@NHS_ELFT
WOW!!
#NationalComingOutDay
coming out as a gay man in the 1980s was difficult. HIV was at its peak and I was attending friends funerals in my 20s. We came through it though and can I shout out for all those who came on the journey with me
#Blessed
#Privilege
#ThankYou
I should be sitting on the balcony in Nice having a glass of rose wine on the balcony and watching the sun set. Instead I’m still in Clapham sitting in kitchen and wondering if we should put the heating on!
Reflecting on my appraisal today I feel very privileged to be CMO
@NHS_ELFT
. I am working harder than I ever have but feel energised by the people ( staff, service users and carers) who make me realise anything is possible
