We are thrilled to report we located clouded leopard Nova on-grounds at the Zoo this afternoon at approximated 4:40 p.m. She was located very near the original habitat, and teams were able to safely secure her just before 5:15 p.m.
We have an ongoing situation at the Zoo right now with a Code Blue β that is a non-dangerous animal that is out of its habitat. One of our clouded leopards was not in its habitat when the team arrived this morning and is unaccounted for at this time.
Dallas PD is onsite assisting with the search efforts. The Zoo is closed today as our teams work to find and recover the animal. Given the nature of these animals, we believe the animal is still on grounds and hiding. We will share updates and more information as soon as we can.
We are thrilled beyond belief to share that our two emperor tamarin monkeys have been found. DPD located the animals early this evening, and called our team to come secure and transport the tamarins back to the Zoo. They will be evaluated by our veterinarians this evening.
Initial indications are she is not injured. She is being evaluated by our veterinary staff right now. Weβll provide further updates on her status tomorrow.
We'll be sharing another update later early this evening, but in the meantime, for anyone in the areas surrounding the Zoo who may be curious or have concerns -
Clouded leopard Nova spent Saturday in the habitat with her sister Luna, perched up on a high branch while oh-so-many guests stopped by to wish her well. The vet & animal care teams say she shows no signs of injury and has settled right back into her routine today.
#thankful
Emperor tamarin monkeys, Bella and Finn, were so happy to snuggle into their nest sack here at the Zoo last night! Our vet and animal care teams have said, beyond losing a bit of weight, they show no signs of injury.
This animal is an adult clouded leopard and weighs 25 lbs. Its habitat is a dense forest, and it is designed for life in the treetops. It is bigger than a house cat and smaller than most bobcats. If you think you see the animals, please do not approach the animal.
We ask that you take a photo and DM us. To set some minds at ease, if she has made her way off-grounds, this animal isn't a greater risk for pets than animals native to North Texas that roam our neighborhoods, but if you feel more comfortable bringing pets inside, please do.
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of a much-anticipated baby hippopotamus to your Dallas Zoo family! Boipelo gave birth to a healthy hippo calf on Sunday, Oct. 30 around 5:30 p.m. Both are doing well and have been bonding behind the scenes. More updates to come on social!
On Monday morning (January 30), Dallas Zoo alerted the Dallas Police Department after the animal care team discovered two of our emperor tamarin monkeys were missing. It was clear the habitat had been intentionally compromised.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce our whooping crane chick, released to the wild in November 2023, was found deceased with a fatal gunshot wound on January 9 near Mamou, Louisiana.
We must give the people what they ask for... it's Boipelo and her mini-me. π We're still working on a name and will announce that, along with whether we have a male or female little one, in the next few weeks. In the meantime... π πΈ: Sr. Zoologist Ashley B.
IT'S A GIRL! Weβre thrilled to share that our baby hippo is a girl, and we've decided to name her Kalo! Pronounced Kah-lo, her name is a tribute to one of the K9 patrol dogs at Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), based in Zambia.
Is there anything sweeter than our little Kalo? P.S. As winter temps arrive, please keep in mind that many of our animals might need to warm up in their cozy areas on the coldest days. Pro tip β head to the Herpetarium for the perfect place to warm up during your next visit.
We're so grateful for the support we've received as we comprehend the unexpected loss of our 35-year-old lappet-faced vulture, Pin. Losing him is devastating not only to our Zoo family but also to the conservation efforts of this species. Pin will be missed dearly by everyone.
Yesterday, 116 Texas horned lizards started their exciting journey to be released into the wild! Our team has worked tirelessly since their hatching to ensure these little ones are fully prepped and ready for this big moment. Stay tuned for more details on their release!
BABY HIPPO UPDATE: Kalo is now weighing in at about 260 pounds and has started experimenting with solid foods. There is nothing better than crunchy romaine lettuce for this curious little hippo.
LONG-NECKED BUNDLE OF JOY β€οΈ: We're thrilled to share that our giraffe herd has grown by one! Mom Chrystal and dad Tebogo welcomed a healthy, 131-pound baby GIRL on Sunday, March 19.
This weekend, our staff found that one of the endangered vultures in our Wilds of Africa habitats had died. The animal care team is heartbroken over this tremendous loss. Please keep them in your thoughts as they process what has happened.
Boipelo continues to be a protective and doting mom to this little one! The team is starting to do introductions in adjoining stalls behind the scenes with mom, baby, and half-sister Adanna. New content for

A reward totaling at least $12,500, contributed by various organizations including your Dallas Zoo, is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for this incident.
A very special lady turned 46 years old yesterday! Jenny, the beloved matriarch of our elephant herd, celebrated her birthday in style with BFF Gypsy. The theme of the day was βQueen of Hearts,β and our incredible zoologists prepared some special treats to celebrate the occasion.
LITTLE GIRAFFE, BIG STEPS: Nea recently got to explore North Savanna for the first time, and we caught all the cuteness on camera! She's growing more and more independent, but mom Katie was there to help her in her new adventure.
BABY ALERT: You're looking at the first Linne's two-toed sloth baby born at the Dallas Zoo since 1981! This little one was born on Oct. 19 to first-time parents Tommi and Riley. He/she is strong, active, and has already started eating solid foods!

Emperor tamarin monkeys would likely stay close to home - the Zoo searched near their habitat and across Zoo grounds, and did not locate them. Based on the Dallas Police Departmentβs initial assessment, they have reason to believe the tamarins were taken.
The best things come in small, armored packages... we have armadillo babies! Jolene, our six-banded armadillo, gave birth to two precious pups on April 20, marking the first-ever successful armadillo birth at the Dallas Zoo!
Dallas Police are looking for the publicβs help in identifying the pictured individual. Detectives are looking to speak with the man in regard to the two tamarin monkeys missing from the Dallas Zoo.
Anyone with information- call 214-671-4509.
We can also announce that the Zoo is increasing the reward to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for these incidents.
These two are clearly making themselves at home in the Simmons Hippo Outpost! π¦π
REMINDER: Boipelo and her calf will be making regular appearances in their public habitat now, weather and mom's comfort level permitting.
HIP, π¦, HOORAY! Boipelo and her calf are ready to meet their adoring fans (weβre talking about YOU)! The pair made their way out to the habitat for the first time this morning and will start making regular appearances, as long as the weather cooperates and mom feels comfortable.
Although our hippo siblings haven't made their debut together yet, we thought we'd share a photo of our current little one with a throwback of young Adanna (second photo) around the same age. We can't wait for these two to become BFFs! β€οΈ

featuring Kalo and Adanna. β€οΈ Boipelo is still keeping Kalo close to her, but this little hippo was able to sneak in a few moments chasing big sis around the beach.
After careful planning and delicate introductions behind the scenes, little Kalo and mama Boipelo spent time on habitat together with dad Gus and half-sister Adanna for the first time! Itβs also the first time weβve ever had four hippos on habitat at the Simmons Hippo Outpost!
We're thrilled to share that Boipelo's calf is...a GIRL! π Her name is Adanna, which means "father's daughter" in in the Nigerian Igbo language. We think it's the perfect name to honor her late father, Adhama, who captured all of our hearts and is deeply missed.
We cannot thank the Dallas PD enough for their quick response and assistance in locating the tamarins. We are pleased that video from our surveillance cameras β which we shared with DPD β seems to have been critical in generating a tip that led to the recovery of the tamarins.
Conservation is at the heart of everything we do at the Dallas Zoo. While we often celebrate success stories, the work we so passionately undertake is often marked by challenges and setbacks beyond our control. The impact of this significant loss is felt by everyone involved.
Welcome to the world, baby giraffe! π¦
Chrystal's adorable baby BOY made his big debut on Aug. 22, tipping the scales at 123 lbs. and standing nearly 6 feet tall. He doesn't have a name yet, but heβs already melting hearts and stealing the spotlight in the Feed Yard.
Both started eating and drinking almost immediately once the team completed health exams on Tues. They will not return to the habitat for a while - because they were taken off-grounds, they will need to clear a quarantine period before they are reintroduced to their Zoo habitat.
This little boy is almost three weeks old, and he has a NAME! Meet... Okubili! His name means "two" or "duplicate" in Zulu, and we think it's perfect for this little one because he is a carbon copy of second-time mom, Mlilo.
WATCH β BABY HIPPO BIRTH: Our entire Zoo family is over the moon today! This is one of the biggest birth announcements we've ever shared. Boipelo gave birth to a healthy baby calf on Tuesday, May 14 around 6:30pm, and it was all caught on camera!

Wicket, the rock hyrax is back out in his habitat! He has been dealing with several age-related health issues lately, but with the incredible care he's received from his adoring team, he has made a full recovery. At 13, this little "potato" is one of the oldest hyrax in the AZA.

We see love in so many ways here at the Dallas Zoo. Between animal couples, moms, dads, siblings and friends, love is all around us. π Happy Valentine's Day!
Megan and her baby made their way out into the habitat this morning for the most adorable debut! Half-sister Saambili made an appearance too. The way Megan effortlessly cares for this sweet newborn is completely melting our hearts. Gender confirmation and baby's name to come! β€οΈ

Boipelo and her calf continue to make regular appearances at the Simmons Hippo Outpost, so come on by and see them!
We recently caught Saambili and Mbani playing with excelsior wood wool bedding. Our gorilla troop receives wood wool for nesting, but we think these silly siblings may prefer throwing it at each other.

Say hello to our emperor tamarin monkey TWINS, born March 29, to mom Lettie and dad Roger. These little ones can be seen riding on mom, or dad's back, and sometimes the backs of their older siblings, Chico and Ilsa! Stop by the Tamarin Treetops habitat to spot these little ones.
Weβre excited to share that Katie's calf is named Nea, which means βradiantβ in Swahili. She has met every member of the giraffe herd, including dad Tebogo. This marks the first time in Dallas Zoo history that Tebogo has spent time in the habitat with one of his children!
Happy

HEADS UP: Our hippo bloat will be off habitat this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday while the pool at Simmons Hippo Outpost gets a clean! Don't worry, Kalo will be back to make a splash in no time!

Our little man Okubili made his public debut this morning! This tiny trunk spent the morning exploring every log & stick around the habitat, under the watchful eye of mom Mlilo. The pair will make regular appearances out on habitat - pending weather & comfort levels, of course.
