I will never ever until the day I die forget talking to
@RyanKalkbrenner
this morning. Kid was walking to class at 8:30 AM after a devastating 1-point loss the night before. I said “what the **** are you doing awake this early?” Kalk said “I cant sleep bro”.
It’s very difficult leaving a place like Millard North with all the amazing people and the top-notch culture there both academically and athletically. However I can’t wait to get started full-time as Program Director at Omaha Sports Academy at the end of the school year!
Excited to announce that I have been named the High School Girls Director at OSA. I look forward to working with some great kids, parents and coaches! Details about skill workouts starting in September will be announced soon.
@OSACrusaders
Yesterday morning my dad was put into the ICU while I was coaching a game. Have to say thank you to everyone who have gone out of their way to drive to Lincoln to help coach my teams this weekend! Best news is that if my dad continues improving he will be out of ICU today! 🙏🏻
Heart-wrenching way to end. You don’t end a teams season on a 50/50. After a game that physical and competitive, you give both teams five more minutes to earn the right to play in the Final Four. Period.
So excited to say I have been offered the Senior Operations Coordinator position at Creighton University. Can’t wait to get to work and try to make an impact at a place that means a ton to me and my family!
Jays>Huskers
Omaha>Lincoln
Playing in NCAA tourney>filling out a bracket while on spring break in Cancun
Basketball and volleyball school/just volleyball school
Blue Crew>absolutely no one
Mac>Fred
CHI>Vault
What did I miss?
My dad has 33 years sober today. One of the best parts of being an adult is hearing from people about how big of an impact your parents have had on people’s lives.
I admittedly don’t know much about volleyball but I know Coach Booth. Have coached all three of her daughters and there isn’t a cooler customer and more down to earth leader at CU. We should be so thankful for Mac and Kirsten leading the charge at CU (with tons of others).
One thing I will say about last night: I have NEVER seen Mac so animated on the sideline like he was last night. Not sure the Fox broadcast featured that at all, but that game was super important. We have one of the best coaches in the country, let’s not forget that.
No reason to get mad at anyone anymore for transferring. NCAA caused this circus and every single team in the country is losing good kids to a higher bidder. Bring back the rest of the core, add a few good transfers (which we will), and we are a Final Four contender again.
As crazy as this sounds, I could make a strong argument that Creighton doesn’t receive an invite to the Big East back in 2013 if Doug doesn’t decide to come back for his senior year. Most impactful player in the history of Creighton athletics.
Jays at UCONN tomorrow night. Top 20 matchup. I (unlike most Jays fans) love UCONN and Coach Hurley and everything they have brought to the Big East: It’s old vs. new. Midwest vs. East Coast. Dickheads vs. people who are nice. 😂. Jays 73-UCONN 71
CWS always gets me excited that new visitors get to experience Omaha for the first time. In my opinion the most underrated city in America! Enjoy the baseball, the people, food, nightlife, etc. There is no doubt in my mind we would kill it if ever given an NHL or MLB team.
Yesterday put a wrap on my first summer at OSA. I couldn’t be more excited about where we are headed as a program. Very thankful for new relationships I have made so far with our families and players and staff!
Creighton is quickly becoming one of only a handful of programs where a Sweet 16 is now the expectation. 3 out of 4 seasons and recruiting is better than its ever been. Let’s go swing away against the Vols, if we are hitting, they will have a tough time scoring with us. 😎
Appreciate everyone’s support and kind words towards my dad. Quick update: He is still in ICU fighting a bad infection but making small progress. Guy is a beast so no doubt he will come out on top of this battle. Thank you all for continued support and prayers!
One day we will be talking about “the good old days” of Creighton Athletics. It’s happening now. So if you love the Jays or appreciate a school in Omaha playing elite-level sports on a national-level….come to a game.
Our Jays are going to be just fine next season trust me and more importantly trust one of the best staffs in country. Omaha cares about CU way too much to take a back-seat to anyone when it comes to NIL. 😎
My brother Coley coming up on 16 months alcohol-free and my dad coming up 34 years. Boring times but makes you appreciate the things in life that you normally wouldn’t.
Everyone has seen this clip by now, but I can’t stop watching it. Not because it’s surprising or anything new; it’s because that I’m so proud that guys like
@KirkHerbstreit
@GottliebShow
and other National pundits are realizing how special CU,
@cucoachmac
and Omaha is.
Gotta credit
@gocreighton
for the debut of last night’s pregame light show.
Fans have been craving a better pregame experience and last night was everything we’ve ever wanted.
No place like Omaha. 🔥 RDJ 🔵⚪️
I totally respect Husker football fans and their loyalty to our state and their team. I would honestly root for Huskers if they ever make the playoffs in football. Talking hoops with Husker basketball fans is like having your bachelor party at Fun-Plex.
Jays are basically playing 6 guys. Three are freshmen including a PG playing 35 minutes a game with the ball in his hands majority of every game. They lost all 5 starters from last season in a veteran Big East, and are still in contention for an NCAA bid. Appreciate
@cucoachmac
.
We had a great 7 am workout this morning even with league games last night. Shoutout to all athletes who are sacrificing a lot of their summer to get better at their respective sports. It’s no wonder athletes eventually make some of the best employees!
U17 National ends an awesome summer and AAU career with a 63-61 win over a good Midwest Elite team out of Chicago! Really fun group of kids and parents, I am thankful to have been a part of it.
Excited to say I will be coaching the 15u premiere team at
@crusader_girls
this summer. Hoping to put together a roster of multi-sport athletes who want a chance to develop their bball game. Tryouts will be March 4th!
Last night was the best atmosphere for our two varsity home games in the six years I have been at Millard North. Shoutout to
@adam_krupicka
and the other seniors especially for stepping up so far this season. Our players love it!
I think Omaha might enjoy watching this kid. 😳…And he is second highest rated recruit in arguably the best class in Creighton history.
@larrygetbuckets
There are way too many arenas around Omaha for the state tourney to be played at Lincoln High Schools for the smaller classes. Baxter, Ralston, and Sokol would all be great places for the smaller classes to play their state tourney games at.
@damonbenning
@GarySharp1620
Couldn’t be more excited about where OSA girls program is headed. We couldn’t do it without all the awesome kids, parents and coaches who are representing OSA the right way. We are building something special!
Highlight of the morning at
@UBTSportsComplx
: 4th grader comes in for a workout wearing a Doug McDermott jersey. I asked if Doug was his favorite player and he said “YES duh”, not realizing that
@dougmcdermott
was the “tall guy” shooting on the court next to him 😂.
Hearing adults complain about how “soft” kids are now 🤦🏻♂️. There were soft kids in the 80’s and 90’s as well. Adapt or get out of the coaching/teaching/management lines of work. Kids are motivated by positivity now more than ever. They see enough downers on social media everyday.
Pretty casual weekend: Walked on the court during the most insane/longest state tournament game ever, watched our kids win a state championship, ran an OSA tryout with 100 kids. Really low-key..
Many reasons. As a Creighton fan, we have something to prove in joining the tradition of BE. They said we would never be the same again. Also, ESPN and their lack of attention to the 1st or 2nd best conference in the country due to lack of a TV contract is embarrassing.
Don’t know this kid at all but anytime we opened the gym at OSA for a 7AM workout this summer, he had already been there an hour working out on his own.
Best crowds this season at CHI: Iowa, Bama, St. John’s. Student-section came back in a huge way but more importantly, the people attending yesterday got back to the old Jays form. Sometimes you have to get called out in order to make a change! 😂
Kids with supportive parents; appreciate them! I’m an assistant coach and grew up in a Omaha Westside family yet my parents come to almost every Millard North game cheering on our kids.
Have a crazy idea on how to help overcome the teacher shortage: Pay them more. If you pay teachers more, more will apply. If more teachers apply, districts can be more selective on who they hire. If they hire better teachers, they will produce more prepared students..🤷🏻♂️
Just over 24 hours from now the Jays will take on a first-place St. John’s and Rick Pitino team here in Omaha. If you are unable to go because of the weather or cold, contact me and I will make sure your tickets get in the hands of Jays fans who are ready to go nuts.
Give me a break for those complaining about the crowd this season. Absolutely it could have been more electric last night, but we had 17,000 people on a Wednesday night for a college basketball game that started at 8:15 and ended at 10:30. Y’all would have hated the 90’s.
We aren’t playing poorly because of shot-making. We are playing soft, have zero urgency again and are jogging around perimeter instead of playing with a purpose.
Jays fans: I believe there are SEVERAL instant-impact guys wanting to come be a part of our program. Trust our staff to make the right decisions in order to put together another product able to compete for Big East titles and Final Four bids.
Proud of my OSA U15 Gauntlet team this weekend in Dallas. The girls competed against older teams all weekend including one of the top 16’s teams in the country today. Played in front of coaches from UCLA, Michigan, Florida, and many others. Great first experience with Adidas!
As every June approaches, I always remind myself that the closer the relationship between High School Coaches and Club coaches, the more it benefits the kids. Put your ego down and work together if you are in it for the right reasons...
To put into perspective how far Creighton has come as a program the past 5 years: Blowing out Georgetown on the road seems to be not a big deal. We used to sell out the Qwest Center for Evansville....
U17 National opens up their last tourney of the summer with a 1-point win in double-OT over the Minnesota Stars on a buzzer-beater by Avery Heilig!
@avery_heilig
Biggest pet peeve in coaching is hearing HS basketball coaches bash the AAU style of play. There are good and bad coaches at all levels and yes some of us teach our kids to play hard on defense too. The more AAU coaches and HS coaches work together, the more it benefits kids.
So many high school parents transferring to chase wins. It’s embarrassing. Do what is best for your child for their development as a player and more importantly as a person. Watching their better teammates win a bunch of games won’t cure anything.
Four of our players from
@MNmustangGBB
hold either D1 or D2 offers. Great to see them and many other Omaha kids getting this type of interest right now.
Crusader Nicole Avila-Ambrosi (Millard North High School 2020) has received an offer from Coach Olson and D1 California Baptist University!

10 years ago tonight, Creighton played its first
@BIGEASTMBB
game.
League records since then:
Villanova 142-41
Creighton 109-78
Providence 108-76
Xavier 104-76
Seton Hall 98-88
Marquette 98-89
Butler 85-103
St. John's 71-115
Georgetown 60-123
DePaul 39-143
UConn38-20
This is 100 percent spot-on. We aren’t KU or Duke. I’m guilty of it as well, but making tourney basically every year should not be taken for granted. If you are that guy/gal, check Nebraska football. Bet most of y’all would take 9-3 next season 🤷🏻♂️
