Today was my first in a new role as Managing Editor of Investigative Journalism
@cbcnews
. Very excited to work with the incredible leadership teams
@cbcfifth
@cbcmarketplace
and the I-Unit to bring even more investigative stories to your screens. They’re the best in the biz!
I have news. After leading the
@CBCnews
Investigative Unit for the past two years, I'm proud to be moving into the role of Executive Producer of
@cbcfifth
Honoured to be given the opportunity and ready to get started!
Some people will tell you their resolution is to jump higher, try harder, lean in. That used to be me. This year I resolve to embrace the space I’m in, breathe deeply and exhale. Only took me 53 yrs. May it take you fewer. 🥂

Drumroll time! After 33 years, this week marks my last at CBC News. It’s been a fantastic 3 decades reporting from all over Canada and the world, anchoring the news, and leading our incomparable investigative teams. Now, I'm ready for something new. Stay tuned!

The smile of someone who just finished her internship

and
@theryersonian
and now has her BA Journalism
@RyersonU
! She's also the next in the Swain family tree to join the biz.That's 4 generations now. Congrats Lara!! Look out sports world, this kid can write!
My own understanding of and reaction to

ー19 has been evolving daily. What I thought was okay to do even two days ago, I feel differently about today. Suspect I'm not alone in that.

Hey -- glad you liked it. Come on my show! Would love to chat one on one. Seriously, any time! 'The Investigators with Diana Swain' on CBC in Canada We're on youtube. (with slightly fewer than 17 million subscribers...😂 )
Once again our Communications Centre has been receiving a number of calls from citizens using it as a platform to complain about being awaken by the Amber Alert.

Amen to that. I have never hidden my age. I turned 55 a couple of weeks ago. To me, denying my age is denying my own experiences, and it feeds the idea that woman have a shelf-life. We don’t. We’re awesome from start to finish. Happy Birthday!
Every summer at the cottage we indulge in east coast lobster 🦞 and I make biscuits that are not for the calorie-wise and we feel grateful; for many things.

TEACHER TO THE END: In lieu of flowers, this teacher asked people to fill her funeral with backpacks of school supplies for students in need. People donated so many, it took 100 teachers to carry all the backpacks out.
When I started WFH I was baking bread, and making plans to work out daily. Today I consumed half a dry orange, a bowl of trail mix and too much coffee, and my legs ache from sitting too long. I am not winning the WFH Olympics.
Took my board for a paddle this morning. This aft we hiked (my legs are a scratched up mess) to an isolated lake to fish. And now I’m having a glass and in spite of all the crazy around me in the world, I feel lucky. Grab the good in life whenever you can.

goalie Carey Price met a young fan whose mother, before dying of cancer, promised her son she would help him meet his idol.
Here's the moment Price and Anderson met ❤️
My partner spent 12 yrs working with

on Hockey Night. They drove together, golfed together and drank rum together. He has nothing but wonderful things to say. If you’re wondering: Bob is the real deal.

Only good journalism has exposed this. Incredible work by
@cbcnews
colleagues in Sask “Millions meant for residential school survivors spent on Catholic Church lawyers, administration: documents”
Oh man... someone on this
@gotrain
has fresh french fries. The fry truck kind. And, I’m very hungry. The “I had a salad for lunch” kind of hungry. This is gonna be a long ride home.
I work for the Canadian federal government and they sent out an email with work at home guiding principles. It’s amazing to work for a place that speaks like this.
Joe was the real deal. Seeing him in the halls used to be an intimidating reminder of what journalism can accomplish in the world. He was kind, but direct. And that voice...

Joe.
Talked on air with colleague
@NatashaFatah
about the

news of the day just after we arrived at the cottage, then augured a hole in the ice to get winter water. Multi-tasking!

@cbcnews
I’ve answered emails, sanded and primed two exterior windows, folded laundry and canned homemade mango/ginger chutney. I realize it’s not even 3pm but can we all just pretend it’s way later and go to sleep now?
At long last, getting 👁 surgery today. Not laser, but a procedure more typically used on patients with cataracts being offered these days to “younger” patients :) Happy to be getting this done, but will be happier when I’m headed home!

Is it you?
I’m looking for a Senior Producer to help me lead
@cbcfifth
The Fifth Estate into its 47th season. If you’re an experienced investigative journalist/leader this is the job you’ve been waiting for. Applications close soon. Job posting can be found online. Let me know!
Just texted my son some life advice. Told him I hoped he was keeping track of all my texts for the “advice from Mom” book he writes some day. He suggested a
@netflix
special instead. Smart boy 😉
I breast-fed my baby in the dressing room before anchoring the 6pm news. It was complicated. And it was 25yrs ago. We should have this worked out by now. Let her bring her baby.
The
@Olympics
prides itself on humanity. So, if the games go on, here's hoping the right step is taken to allow
@8kimsmith
to both compete and bring her child to the games. I won't be attending, her husband and child fill my IOC spot.
Will admit, I had never seen this

line until today. Can’t stop reflecting on it.
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
A question to ask until the end.
For those who’ve been asking (and I appreciate it 👍) ‘The Investigators’ was not renewed for the 2019
@CBCTV
schedule. We are working on a shorter digital option. But maybe we’ll get picked up for the fall. Who knows 🤷🏻♀️ Crazier things have happened
@cbcnews
I will always associate your Dad with my own, who called his games years ago in the NHL with the Jets. That it was cancer that took them both is a sad connection.
#rip
After an incredibly brave and difficult battle with cancer, our dad has passed away. My family is so proud of him and the way he fought.
#HawerchukStrong
You need to watch this. It’s a real conversation full of empathy and hard fact. Neither easy questions to ask nor to answer. If you feel like you’ve been getting numb to all that’s happened, this will snap you out of it.

This week 86 people died in Ontario of Covid-19.
5 were at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto.
And Dr. Michael Warner was with each of them when they died.
Scared. Finding it hard to breath. Without their families.
Please watch and understand the real toll of the pandemic.
