Hi Twitter friends. I’m going to post something out of the ordinary for me, but it’s very important so just bear with me.
Four weeks ago, I was pregnant. My husband and I were simply elated for the 6 days that we knew before the pregnancy ruptured inside my fallopian tube.
False. Of the 20 abortion ban states only 7 have exceptions for nonviability & only 14 have exceptions to protect the health of the pregnant person. Which means multiple states currently require proof of imminent “risk of death” for an ectopic exception. Risking everything else…
Oh, and of course, I had to both recover from a traumatic abdominal surgery *and* mourn the loss of my child. A child that was so, so very wanted. This all happened 3.5 weeks ago, so I’m still very much in the throes of these things.
Vote like you give a shit about women :)
When abortion laws are passed, they threaten the health and safety of women. Even exceptions for the “health” or “life” of the mother are dangerous — how close to dying do I have to be before I can be treated?
You don’t know all of the nuances of why abortion is healthcare, but it just is, okay? How about you leave the healthcare of women to them and their physicians and stop voting for people who want to police us into our literal graves. Thanks.
and it was over. Not only had we lost our first baby, but had I waited to seek treatment, or if the law had decided I wasn’t in enough danger for physicians to help me, I truly could have died. They don’t put just anyone lights and sirens across town.
But so many of these restrictive abortion laws are poised to make that treatment illegal. Women in the states with the worst laws are being told to wait until they are closer to serious health complications or death before seeking treatment.
If we had somehow known this pregnancy was ectopic before it ruptured one of my only two fallopian tubes, it would have been treated with an abortion pill. My baby wouldn’t have yet died, but it would only be a matter of time, along with the rupture of my tube.
As far as we knew, the pregnancy was normal and progressing well. You can only tell so much that early (about 5 weeks gestation). Then, all of a sudden, I was in the ER for abdominal pain and we were informed that my pregnancy had ended, my baby was never going to make it,
and I was hemorrhaging internally. I was transferred by ambulance for emergency surgery. My fallopian tube was damaged from the rupture, so I lost it. I’ll have only my left tube for the rest of my life. Only a few hours after I arrived at the ER, I was walking up from surgery,
This has all happened in the last 5 days so I’m still not totally sure this is real life, but…
It’s finally my turn to announce that I’ve accepted a position with
@NWSSpringfield
! I start VERY SOON and I’m so excited but also freaking out just a bit ahah 😃 pls advise!
I have written almost 1000 lines of MATLAB code since Monday. I had never touched this language before this semester. I wrote a tornadic vortex detection algorithm. Please clap.

My 15 yo sister drove her little moped way too far to get to a Walgreens and get vaccinated without our mother’s support or approval. So f*cking proud of her and wish I was closer and could have driven her.
I knew I wanted to be a meteorologist at approximately the age of 8. You can imagine my surprise when, sometime in middle school, I discovered National Weatherperson’s Day is my birthday! So you all have to appreciate me 2x as much today 😌🥳

After a seasonable weekend, temperatures will once again soar through the 90s up to 100°, and heat indices will be a few degrees warmer. There are low chances for isolated thunderstorms each day this week, with probabilities on Monday currently less than 20%.

Something of an announcement: once (if) I survive finals this week, I will be embarking on a large-scale field campaign called TORUS to collect data on supercells. I will also be running the

Today we wear purple to raise awareness about & show support for women in STEM fields.
This is an important conversation. We’re proud to “wear purple” every day bc engaging girls & women in science matters. 💪🏻
My fellow NWS ladies and those that work in similar offices: what do you wear to work? I have been told it’s “business casual” 🫥 I’ve been working from home dressed like a goblin for years now, so I need advice. Bonus if you have tips on where to find things for tall women!
during the morning briefing at work this morning I said “as the only woman in the office today on international women’s day, you all have to be nice to me” and the 7 men in the room did not find that funny

I’m a meteorologist! Masters researcher @ Nebraska, got my B.S. from Purdue last year. I use radar to study things, mostly severe storms :) I love to do field work - here’s me helping to operate a mobile phased-array!
the last time I witnessed a near-total solar eclipse was my first day of college in 2017. the next time will be just a few days after my successful master’s defense. celestial bookends
What’s your precipitype? Are you versatile and dependable, like rain? Or sensitive and loyal, like graupel? Maybe a natural born leader, like hail? Try our precipitation personality quiz to find out:

I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO A GRAD SCHOOL the official offer is still coming via mail but I received an unofficial heads-up in an email today from the advisor so I will wait to disclose the school but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Are there any meteorologist jobs with a Mon-Fri 8-5 type schedule other than those in academia? (literally asking for a friend, I just can’t think of any!)
my patience is tested every single day when I log on to the government Facebook account and have to read through the comments without being allowed to reply how I’d like to
My sister told my grandpa I recently published some of my work in a journal. He said “well is it a real journal or just online?” First of all, asshole, virtually all real journals are web-based. Second, this one happened to send me a hard copy of this volume, so get fucked.❤️
I have 3 emails, couldn’t remember which I’d used in my submission, turns out it was in the SPAM FOLDER of the email I least suspected. I got it TWO DAYS AGO. Anyway, SEE YOU AT AMS Y’ALL!!!

Happy 8th Valentine’s Day to the love of my life. This man has followed me to the ends of the earth and been my biggest supporter. We’ve come a long way since our first Valentine’s Day (left). I love you, and thank you for loving me so well 🫶🏻
A relative called me with some questions about the vaccine. I’m no expert, but my science literacy is something they valued. We talked for over an hour. They messaged me two days later saying they decided to get it. No better feeling.
a significant motivating factor to finish my thesis is getting to send the tweet I have already created in my head that tells you all that I’ve done it
Proposed my Master’s work to the (*entire*) department today and had my first committee meeting. This stuff is so scary. I have awesome friends though.
Good thing I don’t have to worry about the high wind threat tomorrow because there’s no way in hell people my age can have houses with yards with things in them to blow away lmao
I know we've got a lot of meteorologists that follow us! Thanks for all you do!
That goes for you, too, storm spotters. You're integral to our mission to protect people and property.
