We're baaack...
Now open for submissions for our 2019 prize.

🎉
2. We will be announcing a sole winner this year, tipping a hat to one extraordinary book and publisher.
However, we'll be dividing the £10,000 prize money equally between all five shortlistees. We want to show our solidarity with all small presses in an extremely difficult time.
All the long-list will be represented: authors, translators, publishers. Come along. Just DM us and we'll send a Zoom link the week of the event. Please retweet.
Are you a small press w/ fewer than 5 fulltime employees? Got a great fiction book coming out this year? Submit for the 2021 Republic of Consciousness Prize! 🏅
An extraordinary book, from a writer we feel we've been waiting for, for a long time.
Our judges say: LOTE offers rapturous encounters with dynamics of art, history, and desire — all written with wit, pomp and dazzling style. A joy.'

It was a special and rewarding day yesterday: the
@LoveTakesRisks
symposium at UEA, which sang with good vibes.
Our twitter announcement was a bit rushed last night, but here is the full shortlist of the Republic of Consciousness, with links to the publishers websites below.
There are many ways you can help small presses - the simplest is to buy books either direct from them online, or failing that from indie bookshops which don't discount. Most small presses have online shops - use 'em!
#smallpressweek
See you tomorrow for the Republic of Consciousness prize longlist announcement. The class of 2020 consists of twelve brilliant books published by twelve stellar small presses.
Watch out for our Twitter and our newsletter.
It's time! The winner of

As we approach the official start date of this year's prize, a big thank you to the judging panel in advance of the most difficult job in literary prizes given translations, short stories and novels in English compete side by side

@onwuemezi
By the end of Year 3, the
@PrizeRofc
will have awarded over £30,000 to small presses in the UK and ROI. Please support us (and get lots of books and stuff) so we can continue to spread the love (with money)
The time has rolled around again, and we will be announcing the winner of the Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses 2021 in about twenty-four hours...!
Thoughts on the shortlist? Hopes for tomorrow? Let us know your picks.
Congratulations to all the longlist authors, and it's a very interesting list on own terms. But simply too much £££ for the Booker: ofc small presses apply, but I know those who aren't sure if the juice is worth the squeeze. £5000 fee for shortlist, and another £5000 if you win
Big congrats to
@DauntBooksPub
longlisted for this year’s
@TheBookerPrizes
with Brandon Taylor’s debut novel Real Life! And also- what Neil says. The Booker is fairly prohibitive where small publishers are concerned.
@PrizeRofc
Submissions for this year's
@PrizeRofc
will close on Friday, November 12th. We are close to the all time highest number of submissions.
Please retweet madly.
After a DELIGHTFUL shortlist reading event last week, we held our final judging meeting yesterday with
@GiantRatSumatra
,
@guygunaratne
and
@johnmitchinson
. Decisions were made.
We are excited to tell you we will be announcing the winner of this years prize on Wednesday 19th May.
Wendy Erskine's 'Sweet Home' (from
@stingingfly
) made it onto our shortlist in 2019. These short stories, set in East Belfast, are charged with regret, sorrow, desire & yearning, & follow characters who struggle to maintain control in an often cruel world👉
Here is the long list for the 2023 Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses. 8 new presses this year, which pleases us. We only wish the long list could be longer - UK and Ireland small press publishing rocks.
Tonight, 7pm: we will release recorded readings from the Republic of Consciousness shortlist:
Hanne Ørstavik reading from Love
Minoli Salgado reading from Broken Jaw
Toby Litt reading from Patience
Isabel Waidner reading from We Are Made of Diamond Stuff
TBA reading from Animalia
Our longlist for 2020 is coming really soon! So over the coming days we want to give one last shout-out to our 2019 cohort. First up: The Cemetery in Barnes by Gabriel Josipovici & published by

Hello!
Our winner ceremony next week is not going ahead, cos of being responsible. We are assessing exactly what to do with announcing our winner, but will keep you all in the loop. We want to celebrate the books on our shortlist properly as best we can.
Little thread following:
The judges are meeting on Thursday to whittle down submissions to close to a long list. Not sure we'll quite get there in one session. But the plan is to announce the long list on February 15th.
Morning. We have two pieces of news:
1. Originally, we'd planned to announce the prize this evening. We're no longer announcing the prize tonight, but we WILL be announcing soon i.e. in the next couple of weeks. We've an iron in the fire and need a teeny bit more time.
We are officially closed to submissions for the 2022 prize. Although we will listen to mitigating circumstances if necessary. It's been a year of translations, great titles, and a lot of short story collections - the most we've ever had.
It’s never been more vital to support indie publishers. The Republic of Consciousness Prize for small press fiction splits the award money between the winning author and publisher. Submissions open til Nov 30th. Find out more here: 🏆
Happy pub day
@TylerKeevil
! To celebrate we're giving away a copy of 'Your Still Beating Heart'. Follow us and

Jacaranda have done an amazing thing in bringing this book to all of us. This is a publishing house of integrity, quality and ambition, and we are delighted to reward and recognise them.
We are so proud of LOTE, Shola von Reinhold's (
@socialmedea__
) novel was outstanding from manuscript to publication. Thank you to the Republic of Consciousness for recognising Shola's greatness!
When I read
@isabelwaidner
's first novel Gaudy Bauble, I realised that here was a writer with talents way beyond the extraordinary. We are thrilled they have won the
@GoldsmithsPrize
for Stirling Karat Gold, published by
@PressPeninsula
.
