i'll say this once so people can stop flooding my emails and twitch chat: yes i have seen this and it's pretty amazing. i had /r/place on one of my external monitors and it was fun to watch.
thanks to those involved, you did good and i love the 8-bit representation
hall of shame for cheaters in osu!, osu!catch and osu!mania, rank 1-10,000.
we are placing over 2,000 restrictions in total including all users outside these lists.
please do not shit on the users here. help them become legit players, if anything.
attached is a hall-of-shame highlighting those in the top
#1
,000 (osu!) that we have determined to be deceiving their fellow players.
this is just a first step. stay tuned for coverage of other game modes and outside of the top

,000.
the abuse hotline is ringing in loud today. many suffering from inability to cope with change.
it's okay, take a deep breath. these are just number. just more accurate numbers, now!
regular reminder to all the osu! players, supporters, mappers, tourney organisers that you are very appreciated for allowing myself and the rest of the dev team and contributors to continue to perfect osu!(lazer) and pave a bright future. and bring in many a featured artist.
today marks 15 years, according to google. in actuality it's a bit more than that, but let's go with it.
i'll be hosting a very ad-hoc event on sunday. come join myself and the team and let's have a talk about things!
i get multiple alerts and am thinking oh fuck what's gone wrong now? or maybe some chocolate mint is on the menu?
no, valorant self-combuted and everyone came to play osu!.
it's finally possible to update your account country based on your current location.
we've introduced this feature with quite stringent requirements, but may adjust going forward.
(be careful, it can't be undone!)
i've already sent this privately with more detail, but i feel it's important to share part of my message publicly as it seems that there is a lot of disrespect coming from a vocal portion of the osu! community which i cannot agree with.
it really is insane how much baggage you end up with after maintaining a single project for a decade and a half.
hard to describe how much time i spend just keeping the game and community and team happy.
i feel like a cracked record at this point, but cloudflare being a single point of failure is absolutely not a good thing.
but hosting a site without cloudflare is basically suicide.
in other words, this internet thing is doomed.
damn.. visiting brings back memories. then i realise we are still actively maintaining this monolith. i haven't needed to visit it in months.
i think it's about time we turn the lights off right?
it looks like russia may have blocked the cloudflare internet (including osu!). it's likely not targeted at blocking osu! specifically, but there's not much we can do right now..
we have a long journey ahead.
don't like song select? we're fixing that. imports from stable too slow? that will get better. performance not quite there? it'll improve every release going forward. results screen not quite what you expected? it's getting revamped.
who keeps running these huge lazer mutliplayer rooms and why am i not invited 🤣
seriously though, for anyone that was part of the one today, let us know how things are running. any issues? enjoying yourselves?
just for transparency, we are getting hit with daily DDoS attacks which are able to bypass cloudflare protection. it’s happened before for months at a time; we can cope but it’s very draining on me.
if anyone knows who is responsible please tell them to kindly fuck off, thanks!
thanks in part to our long term goal of true native cross-platform support, and part to some amazing community contributors, we’re very close to mobile dev builds of lazer!
looking forward to being able to share this in the very near future. and yes, andoid will be targeted too!
we've deployed some changes to way star rating is represented using colour. the new spectrum should hopefully improve understanding and better account for the higher difficulty cap of today's beatmaps.
thank you to everyone that contributes and participates in our community in positive ways.
over the recent months we've been working to improve coverage of our anti-cheat efforts. both via handling reports faster/smarter and via new tooling.
hi just a quick update on lazer pp: it won't happen today but might tomorrow, if i'm happy with how things are.
if not, it might be another week, as most of the team is taking a (well deserved) break and i don't want to rush something out that is potentially broken.
stay tuned!
"oh.. discords down"
"oh... osu! is down"
looks like a cloudflare issue, better go tweak settings
"oh... cloudflare's dashboard is down"

i am feeling good about the lazer codebase, being able to reuse the existing editor code and make this work game-wide in just two days.
doesn't save yet but one step at a time!
a timely reminder that i am glad to be able to work on a game that so many people find enjoyment in playing.
the struggle of trying to keep up with everything – while also making forward progress – never ends, but one day at a time we are moving towards a bright and fun future!
latest lazer build got a new intro <3
finally able to properly reveal the next theme arrangement by
@cYsmix
- "triangles"
this one will be lazer exclusive until release. you can switch back to the old theme if you prefer it, of course :)
does anyone play osu! using a tablet where their tablet area doesn't match the aspect ratio of their game..?
phrased differently: is there any reason you'd want to do this other than to break your brain?
the fact ai intelligence doesn't just come up with the textbook answer, but can provide me with the jank i need to get a task done, is invaluable.
sure i can get to this kind of solution myself and maybe that would feel more rewarding, but when just trying to get-thing-done..
imgur blocked all of our IPs recently (along with other sites) so we couldn't display images hosted there on the osu! site (user pages / forums).
we've recently completed mirrorring all usages of imgur to our own infrastructure to ensure we preserve history as much as possible.
A definitive osu!lazer FAQ, featuring 30 of the most common questions asked by you.
Bit of a long read, but I hope this clears some common misconceptions and gives an idea of the path forward we are taking!
an unexpected early christmas present for osu!(stable) enjoyers arrives: "online star rating" is finally being retired!
coming soon but on cutting edge right now for testing
let me take a moment and step back to thank every one of the osu! supporters out there that continues to keep the game running, but also allow us to concurrently continue development of osu!lazer - the pinnacle and end-game of osu! (in my eyes).
recently we've seen an increase in spam and offensive comments on the in-game beatmap/replay comment system. it's hard to moderate and i am considering turning it off.
does anyone feel strongly against disabling this completely?
friendly reminder: thanks to everyone enjoying, contributing via mapping/skinning or otherwise, watching over the progress of osu!.
you are all heavily appreciated!
this is in my recollection the first ever scheduled maintenance for the game where everything is going to be intentionally taken offline.
it's the only way to recover from how badly things have fallen over (all replica DBs are out of sync). need to restore a pristine state.
yesterday we experienced a critical database failure caused by a bug out of our control. as a result we've been running in a bit of an ad-hoc setup just to keep things online.
let me just add my personal feeling which is that it's very disheartening to put a lot into a project only to have people dissatisfied with what we consider to be giving it everything.
osu!(lazer) 2022.327.0
- multiplayer countdown timers (including auto-start)
- main menu clock / game time
- "strict tracking" mod
and lots more
for those wanting to try and testflight, i am pruning the tester list so try over the next hour or so.
@alertedos
i've checked with the team and checked personally. the restrictions were not "false" and the user did cheat.
just wanted to set things straight.
defending their title with a supremacy renowned across the world, the United States are victorious in the osu! World Cup 2020 over Germany, 7-6.
congratulations, and what a spectacular match!
osu! has this weird thing where you can adjust the volume anywhere in the game using the scroll wheel. in lazer we're considering requiring holding "alt" to make this work (to avoid misfires and weird UI interactions). opinions?
for those following along, we've doubled the 2023 osu! world cup prize pool from $5,000 to $10,000 after including banners and twitch subscriptions surplus, both which were much higher than usual!
heads up to OWC winners: prize money is waiting on me and will be coming soon. still need to calculate the size of the (surprisingly huge!) prize pool. should happen today or tomorrow.
thanks to everyone that bought multiple banners to make this the largest prize pool yet!
just looking through old photos, the osu!arcade prototype was (and still is?) pretty awesome.
might have to bring them back to life with lazer internals :D
we've pushed out some design changes to profile pages (mostly bringing the header up-to-date with the latest design language).
future changes are planned for each section, especially places like medals.
give it a few days before hating, as always!
latest lazer release is the culmination of likely thousands of hours of effort in refactors and reviews.
not much on the surface but it marks a large personal milestone where i can say i now have full confidence in the reliability and flexibility of the client's local database.
thanks for all the feedback regarding offsets. the polls were mostly just to confirm that there was no consensus over directionality, and the almost perfect 50:50 split definitely confirmed that!
anyway here's a preview of what we have coming
