@JeannaHoch @hilcrowder I’ve been married for 25 years, and there hasn’t been any sort of major decision where we didn’t come to a mutual agreement. The idea of “final say” is kind of a toxic way to approach it. If you stop discussion to force a decision, it just leads to resentment.

@LizHighleyman The difference between saying they don’t work and we don’t have evidence that do work seems… I don’t know… academic at this point. If a measure that was as widespread as mask use worked, than there would have been mountains of evidence for its efficacy.

@andymarso @VPrasadMDMPH There’s still some reduction on transmission with Omicron, but it’s not great. You could argue that vaccine passports encourage vaccinated folks to engage in riskier behavior, so they actually ends up increasing transmission among vaccinated people.

@memeticsisyphus I think this is overly simplistic. When I talk to my mom, she’s the one who brings up politics and starts questioning how I can still be a Christian and not vote for Trump. Being in a relationship with a parent who doesn’t respect boundaries is very hard.

@JeromeAdamsMD I know flight attendants who are on multiple flights a day, multiple times a week, and they’ve been unmasked for quite awhile now without getting sick… So it seems to me the risk is probably greatly exaggerated. The air on planes is highly filtered.

@saletan @allahpundit I’m as pro-vaccine as they come, and my wife is immunocompromised. I jumped the line to get my booster. But I don’t think vaccine passports make much sense anymore. At this point I figure just about anyone can infect me.

@helaineolen I’m Gen X, and don’t have kids, so I can’t comment as a parent, but it certainly seemed to me that a lot changed when kids started having cell phones. Seems that being able to constantly be in contact or track kids really cranked up anxiety for parents.

@jordanbpeterson It’s the domino effect for this particular issue that sets it apart. Smokers, diabetics and the overweight aren’t typically straining the healthcare system to the point where things like cancer surgeries are being delayed for other people.

@reneecallier $125 for the amount of food he ordered doesn’t necessarily seem outrageous considering it was delivery. I think a Bloomin’ Onion in and of itself is like $15 or so, maybe more. I haven’t been there in quite awhile. But DoorDash is expensive. Just don’t use it.

@EpiEllie If delaying an infection now makes it likely that an infection later will be worse, yes, that does seem bad in some sense. As far as masks, most people have simply made the calculation that any supposed benefits don’t outweigh the risks. It’s not difficult.

@hinz_tamara @BallouxFrancois Seatbelt laws took a long time to enact, but aren’t nearly as burdensome as masks. I think banning smoking in bars had pretty broad support. It’s simple - if people thought masks weren’t burdensome, they’d wear them. But they’re a pain.

It’s much easier to sanitize a water supply than try to clean the air, which comes from everywhere, all at once.
