Before all you hipsters throw out your cds, we have sold more cds in the past week than anytime in the past year, and more cds than vinyl for the first time in years!
You blatantly lied to us
@BorisJohnson
For all record shops in UK who sell online, their European customers now have to pay so much that sales have dried up. A Danish fan: “I now pay 25% extra when the parcels arrive in Denmark AND a £15 fee each time. Can’t do it any more.”
@fairycakes
Brilliant. When I was manager of Tottenham Ct Rd’s Our Price I managed to “lose” 300 x copies of the no 1 record in the charts by Phil Collins. The area mgr found them in a dusty corner in the basement. He demoted me immediately to asst mgr. Next day i joined Cocteau Twins. Life.
35 years ago today we released the album “Treasure” , MY first album working with Elizabeth & Robin. Listening to it today for the first time in years, I can say it is a wonderfully strange and unique sounding record. I am pleased it is still so loved by our fans. Thank you! X
31 years ago today in a studio we built ourselves with help from our pals in Dif Juz, we released this album out into the world and we really loved making it. Felt like the start of something. Blue Bell Knoll.
I do live very much in the moment and ❤️ our young bands (at the label and the mgmt side) but it is a beautiful thing to see so many new fans of Cocteau Twins discovering our music. For a band that stopped in ‘97 we have never been more popular than we are now. That is strange❤️
A true original. No one played guitar like Tom Verlaine before or since. Sat crossed legged on the floor on his side of the stage in Roskilde as he played in Patti Smith’s band and that was as close to perfection as you can get. A sad sad day. Rest in Peace Tom 🥲
Still saddened by the beeb taking
@marcrileydj
out of his weekday 7-9pm evening slot. There’s a lot of hyperbole in music, how everyone is ‘the new John Peel’ but Riley and producer Michelle’s relentless support of so many brilliant new & original bands will be so sorely missed.
RIP Andy Rourke. A fellow bassist of fine pedigree. We met at Passenger Bar in NYC a couple of times around DJ sets and he was always delightful. So sad to hear he has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Love to his family and friends ❤️
The Sun will continue to wreck lives as long as you continue to buy it. News Of The World folded in light of the phone hacking revelations in July 2011 yet 6 months later simply changes its name to The Sun on Sunday. The city of Liverpool took a stand, now for the whole country.
We [Cocteau Twins] copped a fair bit of stick for our Xmas tunes but I am unashamedly proud of them. We had a lot of fun making them. We’d all just babies so it was in honour of them. Thanks to
@shaunwkeaveny
for playing Frosty The Snowman
@BBC6Music
Alan Rankine. Devastated RIP Alan you left us with such majesty, such beauty, and we are only enriched massively by what you and Billy created +still such a huge part of my life & I have no idea how you did half of it! Terrible start to the year. Deepest condolences to family ❤️
Happy Birthday to one of the all-time great artists and a truly wonderful woman, Elizabeth Fraser. I count myself blessed to have been a close part of your world for 14 yrs & you continue today to be a shining light for singers all over the world with your artistry + soulfulness.
Happy new year. Play an instrument. Paint a picture. Write a poem. Build a wall. Climb a mountain. Swim a river. Run a marathon. Walk a coastal path. Ride a bike. Pet a dog. Make a table. Throw a pot. Grow a herb. Cook a meal. Play some games. Read a book. Learn a language.
When tired, sperm whales dive to 50ft then sleep vertically for 2 hrs, in groups of 5 for protection all at the same distance from the surface. Whales are amazing in case you were thinking of taking a job on a whaling ship. Instead remove the engine or pour concrete in the motor
Oh a rare moment -just walked in from a dog walk and me old band is on the radio! Iceblink Luck is playing on
@BBC6Music
thanks to
@steve_lamacq
- still sounds ace.
“I had to fantasise just to survive” 30 years ago this week we released this. We wrote a lot of songs together 1983-1997 but this would be one of my absolute favourites.
37 years old today the first of two 4 track 12” EPs we released two weeks apart “Tiny Dynamine”. I’ve seen it written elsewhere that these eps were a precursor to Victorialand. Nonsense. 🎂🎂🎂
This is very special for me, though I’m sure will be even more so for Elizabeth and Robin❤️ As the non-Scot, I can only say that I was welcomed so warmly into the fold by not just the both of them of course but also all their compatriots 🏴🏴🏴huge thanks to

📢 We're delighted to announce the winner of the Modern Scottish Classic Award

We look forward to celebrating this brilliant Scottish album at the

Ceremony on 20 October.
As important to the BBC as John Peel, Annie Nightingale and Bob Harris have been and I really feel like a bright light has gone out tonight. She brought so much to so many millions of us over the years and
@janicelongdj
we are all going to miss you so much! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️3/3
@Baddiel
I’ve never seen this tv series This Morning but it seems to have more coverage and commentary than The Sopranos and I loved 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 so which season should I start with? Or is it so fluid that can I just pick it up anywhere and follow the plot?
Happy 29th birthday to Four-Calendar Cafe. I remember saying at the time we will probably all need to die before this record is given the credit it really deserves. Well we are all still here!
The last song we wrote together as a band. We had finished the lp Milk and Kisses and our friend who ran a cd magazine called Volume asked us for a song that wasn’t on the lp for the next magazine so we said ok we’ll write something & this was what we did.
And this daft looking bugger is yours truly. Thanks for listening. I am quite drained and it’s only been 37 minutes. I’ll stay till 11 if anyone wants to ask me more.
Happy 32nd birthday to Blue Bell Knoll, a lot of beautiful memories of making this album. We didn’t tour the record initially but once we did a year or so later, many of these songs became big live favourites, none more so than..
The full LP playback of Heaven or Las Vegas starting now on
@BBC6Music
- if you’re new to it hope you find something to enjoy. It may be almost 31 years old but it still feels like it was yesterday that we were writing these songs in our studio.
@toadmeister
Yeah cos programmes of rich old white man dicking around in cars and acting like the OAP Inbetweeners is really enriching our lives eh? If it’s got to be an rich old white man I’ll take Attenborough any day. Clarkson is an odious blot on the landscape.
Happy 25th anniv to Milk & Kisses, our final bow as Cocteau Twins. It has its detractors even now so it’s a date that will pass without any fanfare. We found a good ally in
@MarkSeefeel
who worked on the Otherness Ep & some live shows incl this rare tv
This day in ‘86 I was working on some new music with my band Cocteau Twins when I heard the awful news about Phil Lynott passing away. Sad for all of my family as we all loved Phil. Ivor (my Dad) played Mellotron on this brilliant track on their debut lp
Thanks to
@SAYaward
for our Modern Scottish Classic Award for ‘Heaven Or Las Vegas’❤️ this lovely slate veneer made by
@artfuturoUK
arrived today and brightened my mood no end! ❤️to everyone who kindly remembers this album from 33 yrs ago and those who have found it since x
What’s odd about CT is that cos we only wrote 10 songs for each lp we would always have to write b sides after. And they’d often be really good maybe good enough for the LP but too late to fit on. Try listening to Watchlar.That’s one of those /it’s on the bside of Iceblink Luck
Another anniversary today this time for the 1988 album of ours Blue Bell Knoll on
@4AD
- always one of our very favourite records-and still sounds fresh today 33 years later. I have signed copies at if you want a cd or vinyl of it.
Very honoured to receive such a beautiful accolade. Thank you to the
@IvorsAcademy
and massive thanks to
@johngrantmusic
for accepting the award on my behalf in my absence. Love to my two colleagues in Cocteau Twins and congrats to them of course ❤️
Almost a year after joining Cocteau Twins we prepared to release Treasure. Looking back on it now exactly 37 yrs later, I remember the 2 ft deep snow at Palladium studios in Stratton where we stayed for one month, the breakfasts Anne would make, the Doberman Corrie, ..1/2
35 years ago we (Cocteau Twins) released an EP called Love’s Easy Tears, the USA vinyl formats and cd versions of which included the song Orange Appled. We loved playing this song live and thanks to Snub TV -who loved our band and invited us to appear but …….1/3
More hair than brain. Hairbrained. Three is a magic number - the past the present and the future -faith hope and charity, the heart, the brain and the body - gives you three as a magic number.
So I wrote a book. It’s out on Sept 12th via
@nineeightbooks
. Lovely words from Elton and also this from Cillian Murphy “A beautiful insightful and honest look into the life of legend and musical polymath Simon Raymonde”. Which was nice. Link to buy in linktree / bio
The title song was CLASSIC Elizabeth wasn't it. Her backing vocals are SOO UNDERRATED ...we knew the music was pretty good but when she came in and laid down that first vocal, oh man...the record is quite short like all of ours and only 10 songs, I am turning the vinyl now.
Dear
@BBC6Music
I would be happy to host Billy Nomates footage from Glastonbury on my website to ensure her awesomeness is appreciated. Any dissenters be dealt with accordingly
Sad end to a difficult day. Had a terrible migraine all day and felt something wasn’t right. I just now heard of the passing of the composer Harold Budd, a lovely lovely gentle man I had the privilege of making a record with in the 80s with Elizabeth and Robin ....1/3
The first day back to studio after my Dad's’s funeral, I was the only one there for a bit, and sat playing the piano. After an hour or so, I had something that I was keeping returning to. (the music for Frou-Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires)...
Stanley fathered Boris and Rachel. Not an iota of empathy and intelligence between them yet both children have platforms to spout their idiotic and dangerous theories on life. The world needs a reset to get rid of fools like these & far away from the decisions that govern us.
Shocked and saddened at the death of an icon of art & design. His 4AD designs are legendary and his sleeves for
@wearesnowbird
&
@Ibreakhorses
both on Bella Union were superb. A funny and lovely man, who adored his family, I cannot believe he’s gone so early. Rest in peace fella.
Decent sized 7.0 earthquake in Marrakesh and our hotel shook like crazy, all our plates and cutlery smashed on floor, whole hotel evacuated in a minute and we are out in the street with hundreds of others. Interesting start to our holiday! But
@abbey808
and i are safe ⛑️
We had to cancel our original DJ as she had some issues with her “DJ set and tech preparations team” despite “months working on it” so I’m gonna turn up with some of my own vinyl and i won’t have spent more than ten minutes on it.
Happy 27th anniv to Four-Calendar Cafe. Despite the personal dramas that lay centre during this lp, my feeling was always that despite a lot of the “4AD” fanbase hating it, in years to come it would be appreciated. Tonight 10pm UK I’ll be hosting a
@LlSTENlNG_PARTY
so simply ...
OK Side 2 starts with one of my fave ever CT songs I Wear Your Ring. I Wear Your Ring, still makes me cry like a baby this one. Wrote the music for this one, and froufrou foxes in the days following my father’s death.
#timstwitterlisteningparty
Of all the recent losses music has endured, I feel Scott Walker’s passing the deepest. The moment I heard his voice, nothing was ever the same again. Working with him on the BBC Proms and seeing his delight at the outcome, will live with me forever. A true hero to me.
I think he also did the bass on this one as I was probably a bit emotionally drained from the piano. Hard to listen to now (he says with tears streaming down the face) but v proud of us for doing it.
#timstwitterlisteningparty
A word about
@RSDUK
: of course it has its naysayers and critics but please just for a second today have a thought for the thousands of record store staff all over the world who put 𝖘𝖔 much into making today special for 𝖘𝖔 many of us music lovers. Huge love from us to you ❤️❤️
33 yrs ago today, we released an album with
@HaroldBuddMusic
called The Moon & The Melodies. Robin has continued to make music with Harold and you can also hear Dif Juz’s Richie Thomas on this song. 30 years later Richie & I would form

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Season 2
Was just a little over 26 years ago we performed live on this American tv show. I'm over there on the right with the Nirvana tshirt on and my beautiful custom made 5-string Russell Fong bass. Love that guitar.
It’s a sobering thought that we (Cocteau Twins) have made £0 in 25 years from any merchandise of our work/name etc That’s ultimately our fault I guess but with the amount of T-shirts out there on the likes of Etsy etc it does make me think.
By the way, you can kid yourself I’m exaggerating, and I am fine with you unfollowing me, but the Tories running this country are conniving, lying fascists. That is I’m afraid an uncontestable fact. The insane orangeman may seem more dangerous over there but beware this regime.
After so many years in the wilderness as a musician following the demise of my old band, I can’t deny it feels lovely to get a few plays of our new band and fleeting as it may be, I am as happy as a clam today 🦖(couldn’t find a clam so here’s a dinosaur).....
Most people think we used synths all the time but we didn't. Robin just had a genius for sound and textures with guitars. I Wear Your Ring is based around a keyboard tho ; )

While newspapers and media moguls continue to payfortunes to cunts like Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson to spout their hatred, the concept of a free press remains as farcical as it sounds. Here’s a pic of Piers and some of his best buds.
A recent music video for one of my own fave Cocteau Twins songs. Captures so much about the joy that music can bring and is easily the best video that anyone else made for one of our songs.
...her first daughter. “Laughing on our bed, pretending us newly wed, especially when our angel unleashed that head-I feel perpetual". AMAZING amazing. Still can't believe we did some of this stuff.
#timstwitterlisteningparty
37 years ago we released this song on
@4AD
- still view it very fondly after all that time. We made the video
@brianeno
’s apartment just in case you were wondering why were in such a lovely place.
And then two weeks after we released Tiny Dynamine 4 track 12” EP we released this one, its sibling Echoes In A Shallow Bay. This was our intention not for them to be “an album”, which is how they kinda ended up for economy reasons. 1986
