This morning our care team found lioness Zuri with an item in her nest. After closer examination, we found that the object is an incredibly rare lion's egg (Latin name: lyintou). There's only a 0.03% chance that a female lion will produce this hair covered egg in her lifetime!

We’re happy to share the birth of a male blue duiker calf! 2-week-old Indigo, or “Indie” for short, has been bonding with mom Flower behind the scenes. Blue duikers are a tiny species of antelope about the size of a house cat. Dad Karuka is still viewable in African Journey.

OTTER PUPDATE: Otterly amazing progress is continuing at the Zoo hospital. When the rescued river otter arrived at just over a month old, she was a tiny pup at only 3.5 lbs. Now approximately 4 months old, she's tripled in size—tipping the scales at a whopping 11 lbs! 🙌

MAISIE UPDATE: Baby chimp Maisie’s relationship with almost 2-year-old Lola has continued to develop, and Lola has become quite attached to the youngest chimp. Maisie sleeps with Lola every night and Lola is very protective of her. She has even tried to carry Maisie on her back!

MAISIE MILESTONE: Nest making is a natural behavior for chimpanzees and 2-year-old Maisie has become an excellent nest builder. She's learned this practice by watching some of the other females as they build their nightly nests—good preparation makes for good sleep!
