Investment into more games or sport specific training will not move the needle as much as balancing your athletic development portfolio to include a consistent regiment of speed based performance training.
Slow, weak and un-athletic cannot be overcome by playing more.

IMO eccentric focus the movement and keep the reps under 5 and you will defeat muscle breakdown which causes soreness. No movement should crush an athlete in high performance.
Speed is the new Strength. The performance field is shifting from bigger and stronger to more athletic and faster. Almost every performance coach knows how to get their athletes stronger, not everyone knows how to make their athletes more athletic and faster.
High schoolers: you can’t run sub-50 in the 400 if you can’t run 23 or better in the 200.
I don’t care how good of shape you’re in.
Prioritize speed. Endurance will come.
