@zero132132 @_baklon @keta_mean_ I think the issue is that these types of social circles don’t consist of people you personally click with, but rather of “allies of convenience”. You’re at work for the pay check and at tennis to play -and so is everyone else. It’s utilitarian social contact.

@selentelechia As a kid I never did anything incredibly “bad” (like touching or screaming at others and such) but I was just deeply off-putting due to wrong body language. 1st lesson is that pity is the only non-negative thing to expect from others. 2nd lesson is that that too runs out.

They have a script that’s been specifically designed to distract a caller long enough for the suicidal urge to pass, and making the caller frustrated at the responder is. As it turns out, surprisingly effective.

@adamfare1996 Many psych professionals treated my (kinky, queer, active) sex life like it was a symptom of mental illness too. The psych establishment isn’t pro sex either -they’re pro a certain normative sexual expression, and everything else is framed as proof of trauma or dysfunction.

@chris_herd People are people first, employees second. Work from home means for many that social needs aren't met, due to isolation and the amount of hours one still has to spend "at work", only now alone instead of in a social environment. For many, being social *enables* productivity.

@EmmaGrant_01 @ask_aubry This (and especially all the resulting drama) would have broken me, as the uncanny weirdo kid no one -including adults- wanted to be around. Like, a kid *Knows* they're weird and no one likes them. Assigning a babysit/forced "friend" is just insult to injury.

@cyhithegoat @McNolf @thechosenberg There’s plenty of “stable” addictions. Tons of meds cause intense physical dependency to the point that you’ll have a really tough time if you skip even one a dose. The difference is that we as a society judge “recreational” substances to be morally worse.

My boyfriend, on learning there’s over 50 books detailing the Horus Heresy yet the story is still in year 0: “What’s even taking do long? Is Horus just going across the universe on a tricycle twirling his evil moustache to let them all know one by one that he’s evil now?”

@LlywleynDafydd @PathsPeculiar THIS. People forget DnD is telling *a story*. It engages with narrative tropes more than with realist expectations. Punishing a character for leaning into "I'm a badass in an action movie" rather than "I'm a terrified Regular Joe about to be murdered" is really un-fun.

@bauerpower I need stories about people who turn shit around later in life. I need stories about older people escaping dead-end desk jobs, re-schooling to different fields, entering academia, becoming artists or musicians, etc. I’m only 27 but I already feel like there’s no hope anymore.
