@selentelechia
It’s the strangest thing. I used to model; there are tons of gorgeous pro photos of me in a variety of outfits and states of undress for my husband to peruse. Yet, he prefers his own collection of unflattering cellphone candids of me. It’s… kind of sweet?
@NomeDaBarbarian
Huh, it's almost as if certain groups in society benefit enormously from a general populace that sees safety regulations as an ideologically aligned thing...
@EST_EricSTaylor
@grayestofghosts
I literally never see TERFs even *consider* the possibility of a joyful, positive embracing of gender -they may be cis but their conception of womanhood is a negative one, an “at least we’re not men”; a dark mirror of misogynists’ “not like women” take on masculinity.
@ThanksThoth
This is literally the way they work. They’re meant to feel deliberately robotic, scripted, and unhelpful because it will make you angry, distract you from the urge to die, and paradoxically make you realise you value yourself more than this.
@zero132132
@_baklon
@keta_mean_
I think the issue is that these types of social circles don’t consist of people you personally click with, but rather of “allies of convenience”. You’re at work for the pay check and at tennis to play -and so is everyone else. It’s utilitarian social contact.
@selentelechia
As a kid I never did anything incredibly “bad” (like touching or screaming at others and such) but I was just deeply off-putting due to wrong body language. 1st lesson is that pity is the only non-negative thing to expect from others. 2nd lesson is that that too runs out.
@_ryyuu_
@GoodReddit
I mean, he's not technically wrong. Our sense of morals is largely relative and comes down to culturally constructed values. It is not an externally determined truth. That doesn't mean those values aren't *valuable* or *meaningful* in the context of a human society.
My boyfriend about Belisarius Cawl:
“I love that he sort of looks like a person from a distance, but then you look closer and he’s really more like five power generators stacked in a trenchcoat?”
@kingsacrificer
@ThanksThoth
There’s been several AMAs and posts of helpline workers about this. They have a script that’s been specifically designed to distract a caller long enough for the suicidal urge to pass, and making the caller frustrated at the responder is. As it turns out, surprisingly effective.
@zero132132
@_baklon
@keta_mean_
And as people become increasingly private, anxious, and avoidant of social discomfort, the odds of ever turning convenient acquaintances into anything more are slight. A lot of adults actually have no social circle centred around “being humans who enjoy each other’s company”.
@sam_aye_ahm
Maybe I’m just terminally online, but ehm, this is not a threat? This is just how a lot of young people talk in online spaces? Overly familiar perhaps for a total stranger, but it’s meant to be humorous, not threatening.
@jErk
Me and my partner are both “affectionate biters”. Only with each other tho, but lemme tell you -sometimes I have to restrain myself a tiny bit to not nibble my closest friends, it really is a nonsexual affection thing. (Big surprise, we’re both neurodivergent AF)
@SlimJosa
My architecture professor who taught both art history majors and civil engineers had a habit of longsufferingly spelling out every jargon term of more than 2 syllables while she lectured. Because as it turned out, a good portion of the engineers couldn’t spell to save their life.
@tara_chara
I live in Belgium, where Euthanasia is legal, and I have *never* heard it being a thing for anyone but people with painful, usually terminal conditions, whose pain that can’t be adequately managed while maintaining QoL.
@suspendersDUH
@KyWilliamsDraws
THIS. So many people right now are making a living with their art and creative expression, outside the “art world”. Content Creation gives artists a professional framework to monetise their art; it’s the very needed area between galleries/museums and it being “just a hobby”.
@SlimJosa
And even that was insufficient. Some horrors she shared from written exams included “Fountain” with an e instead of ai, “Pilaster” with two Ls, “Classical” with the spelling of “Popsicle”, and one guy who used 5 different spellings of “Architrave”, all of them wrong.
@SmalltimeJones
I love this. I knew this existed as a health/psych condition (pica, which typically causes people to have irresistible cravings to eat dirt/soil/rocks/clay) but it’s actually cool AF to see they have their own community and suppliers and are discerning about their dirt.
@gothspiderbitch
Sometimes you have to cut your losses. I lost all my friends when I had a psychosis -they no longer wanted to know me and I can’t blame them. Sometimes knowing what you’re like at your ugliest is too much for people; it forever stains their perception of you even when sane again.

Having had this once in my life (it is criminally expensive)... I can only concur that she's obsessed for a reason, you feel *so much better* almost immediately? Like, you're immediately rehydrated, brainfog gone, more energy, mood improved; it's insane.
@adamfare1996
Many psych professionals treated my (kinky, queer, active) sex life like it was a symptom of mental illness too. The psych establishment isn’t pro sex either -they’re pro a certain normative sexual expression, and everything else is framed as proof of trauma or dysfunction.
The new Slaanesh Daemons are everything I've ever wanted - I literally got the horn bits of the Skaven Verminlord to kitbash a KoS with truly excessive horns, and now there are these new models?? LOVE 😍(probably too much to hope that they'll be legal for 40k tho...)
Hesitated to post because I’m not really an artist, but... Here goes. I am the *exact* demographic that would be into AI... Yet here I am, posting self-drawn cringe instead. It’s not good, *but it’s mine*.

I don't know how to express that "10k/month would change my life beyond recognition" and "10k/month is somehow still insufficient to comfortably cover the exorbitant cost of living in a lot of places, never mind if you have additional costs (medical etc)" can both be true.
@VividVoid_
I think it’s less mercilessness and more being fundamentally disinterested in other people beyond their utility and the fictions one can project on them. These people aren’t looking for real connection, they just want to experience the frictionless narrative of such a connection.
@nameshiv
I accidentally got a full mug of espresso once due to language barrier. I ordered what I thought was a filter coffee, got it with milk, I’m allergic so I was like, “no milk please!” The barista’s face was like 😳😱 “Sin leche??!”, I nod... and receive a full mug of espresso.
@pica_scribit
@diannaeanderson
A dead child has no more opinions, no more voice; a parent can tell themselves and the world around them whatever they like about them, spin whatever tale they please. Plenty of these people would rather have a dead cis/closeted kid than a living trans one.
@denimtaxi
@meepsketball
That's not because it's exorbitant and privileged to want to eat vegetables and see a dentist every year. That's because the cost of living is ridiculous. The problem is that a normal, baseline worry-free life is moving far out of reach from almost ALL of us.
I want to thank everyone on here who told me to report the creepy coworker harassing me with sexual texts. I did it, HR took me (and my screenshots) seriously, and there will be consequences for him. It’s such a load off my back. Thanks.
@EST_EricSTaylor
@grayestofghosts
Only negative, comparison-based conceptions of identity need these hard lines between “what you are” and “what you are not”. TERFs and misogynists feel threatened by trans people for the exact same reason.
@sarahhollowell
I was actually starving in my student years. Friends saved my life feeding me and offering me safety. Now I’m better off, I’m always feeding and hosting others. People who haven’t known that kind of darkness don’t know how much it matters to be able to be a light to someone else.
@ask_aubry
Reading this like... My dude, if you want any woman to be interested in you and not just what you can give her, you need to be willing to be interested in *her* and not just the possibility of fucking her. Wild concept, I know.
I just told someone how much I love being on Hobby Twitter because it’s chill and people share cool minis rather than make drama... *ahum* How obvious is it that I’m new here?

THIS. I was insatiably hungry for much of my life but now feel almost no more hunger cues anymore (whack hormones). I tell you, discipline is *fake*. It's not hard to say no to food if your body isn't screaming for it. A lot of "diet is easy" folk just don't ever get that hungry.
It’s my birthday! 27 years of being trapped in flesh on this material plane... and I’m finally beginning to see the advantages of that! Here’s to improvement; things do get better!
@teaberryblue
I recently had to complete a whole bunch of psych tests aimed to diagnose autism and thought “no one would fail to have a correct response to these, wtf even” ... but I stand corrected. HC Andersen would. He 100% would. XD
@epistemophagy
I don't think being anti-cashless is right wing at all tbh. Those most harmed by it are minorities; immigrants, homeless people, sex workers, addicts, people experiencing domestic abuse, etc.
@NoContextBrits
Cheesy chips is the only one that looks even slightly edible; what the fuck is wrong with just salt on chips -and some mayo to dip in, *in a separate cup instead of slathered on the chips*?

I hate to disappoint you, but fashion has existed from the very moment people began wearing clothing. 800 years ago, Western Europe? Sumptuary laws! “What groups in society are allowed to wear what kind of cloth?” “Prostitutes and Jews should dress in yellow!” Etc etc.
@JenniferRoseNYC
I think you can explain it like, your parent loves you in theory, they don’t want bad things for you, they don’t wish you harm, but they don’t know how to love you in practice, and do what needs to be done to take care of and protect you.

THIS! Not medical ofc , but pop media prepared me for Brazilian wax as a “scream in agony” type thing -when I went for it, it hardly even hurt? Whereas when my doc said “oh, removing this mole won’t hurt a bit!” I literally had tears run down my cheeks it was so painful.
@bitingwhit
@butchanarchy
This. Of course young people should oppose predatory sexualisation. But SO much of teen sex discourse has the vibe of "how dare you have a donut in this donut shop that explicitly sells donuts and has a sign saying "for donut lovers only", while I find donuts disgusting!"
@AutSciPerson
Life became so much easier when I realised meal times and expected foods are all made up and I can just... skip meals, eat spread without bread, have pizza for breakfast, whatevs, and if that makes me happier than having meat/veg/potato on the table at 6am every day, IT’S FINE.
@owenbroadcast
People like this often end up in therapy for symptoms of depression, and then therapy reveals their profound disinterest in others. They do suffer from it (human brains need social contact to an extent) without realising their asocial nature is feeding the disconnect and malaise.
@0600Hours
Gift cards are ideal. Also, I found practical household stuff is good to ask for. You know, the things you need but feel blegh to spend on. My family will not buy me "frivolous" stuff (like beauty stuff or such) but I ask for a decent pan and they shill for a Le Creuset.
My problem:
During the day, I have drive and energy to hobby! I think about hobbying all the time! But I have to work. Then after work, I’m tired and bleh and I *don’t* want to hobby.
Cue next day, I’m sad that I didn’t hobby because now I want to but have to work.

Assessment of rule importance:
1) Does it involve someone’s feelings, either genuine hurt or hierarchical inconvenience? NEVER BREAK.
2) Will you get caught, or if the transgression is caught, will they know it was you? If no, breakable at leisure.
This goes for most rules tbh.
@GGGoneMad
I think it's a desire to meet who you are without the structures and relations that made you *you*. Like, yes, who we are is formed by our connections. But many people end up feeling the voices of others have drowned out their own.
@RaxKingIsDead
Truth. Like, sure. Tasty food makes you fat and fun stuff costs money and even just enjoying the sunshine will give you wrinkles... but what good is a life lived without those things?
@ask_aubry
I have to say… I’m clearly in the minority here, but… like the mom, I too have dated or fucked people who later ended up with friends, and vice versa, never any issue -I can understand maybe some jealousy/disgruntlement, but going NC seems like a really intense reaction?
@H1TWOM4N
My father has dystonia, can no longer wash or use the toilet by himself, and struggles to eat -but cognitively he is fine. He says it’s torture and he often wants to die, but my mother’s love and care for him convinces him he still has something worth living for.
@denimtaxi
@meepsketball
Like, if we are assuming you live in a reasonably nice place (private, safe, clean) with normal amenities, eat healthy food, have a reasonable commute, afford decent primary care and dental, and a decent daycare? There are too many places where 10k is not cutting it.

Plenty of designer brands also do custom design specifically for chains of commercial spaces -in the same way that airline uniforms are often from the hand of a famous designer (YSL, Thierry Mugler, Ralph Lauren etc come to mind).

My entire childhood I thought I looked awful with short hair bc every time regardless of what pics I brought I'd come out with the same sort of ugly, curly head grandma cut -turns out abusive mom agreed in advance with hairdresser what cuts I could have.
@chris_herd
People are people first, employees second. Work from home means for many that social needs aren't met, due to isolation and the amount of hours one still has to spend "at work", only now alone instead of in a social environment. For many, being social *enables* productivity.
@sarahsahagian
There is immense freedom in allowing even people you love the consequences of their own actions. Don't set yourself up as human airbag to catch them. You don't have to stress over (able) adults having a good experience if they themselves don't seem to care. Martyrdom is not love.
@chris_herd
Burn outs, demotivation and depression are at an all-time-high. Not everyone is an introvert who thrives not seeing people, not everyone is capable of being productive non-stop without the relief of social breaks. That is no matter of laziness or not being useful.
@felisantel
@dieworkwear
@TheFlyOnThePen1
Clothing is the garments themselves. Fashion is the process of choosing and combining them. Even the reluctance to do so thoughtfully is engaging in fashion. Even choosing them solely for function rather than aesthetic is *engaging in fashion*.
Yours truly is in the hospital. Mystery condition, but whatever it is, it's painful so I hope it can be fixed. In the meantime, have a not-very-flattering selfie 😜
Thinking about how amazing it would be if GW published simplified rules for casual play, with optional tiers of increasing difficulty leading up to the current, full competitive format as the highest difficulty...

This (and especially all the resulting drama) would have broken me, as the uncanny weirdo kid no one -including adults- wanted to be around. Like, a kid *Knows* they're weird and no one likes them. Assigning a babysit/forced "friend" is just insult to injury.

There’s plenty of “stable” addictions. Tons of meds cause intense physical dependency to the point that you’ll have a really tough time if you skip even one a dose. The difference is that we as a society judge “recreational” substances to be morally worse.
My boyfriend, on learning there’s over 50 books detailing the Horus Heresy yet the story is still in year 0:
“What’s even taking do long? Is Horus just going across the universe on a tricycle twirling his evil moustache to let them all know one by one that he’s evil now?”
@LlywleynDafydd
@PathsPeculiar
THIS. People forget DnD is telling *a story*. It engages with narrative tropes more than with realist expectations. Punishing a character for leaning into "I'm a badass in an action movie" rather than "I'm a terrified Regular Joe about to be murdered" is really un-fun.
@bauerpower
I need stories about people who turn shit around later in life. I need stories about older people escaping dead-end desk jobs, re-schooling to different fields, entering academia, becoming artists or musicians, etc. I’m only 27 but I already feel like there’s no hope anymore.
