The Supreme Court got it wrong with Citizens United when they opened the floodgates for dark money to infect our politics. It’s past time we correct it.
It's official. I'm running for reelection.
Montanans need a fighter that will hold our government accountable and demand Washington stand up for veterans and lower costs for families. I will always fight to defend our Montana values. Let's get to work.
My name is Jon Tester.
I'm the Senate's only working dirt farmer. I lost three fingers in a meat grinding accident when I was younger. I get a $12 flattop haircut. Most of my shirts are stained with dirt.
And I'm sure as hell going to win this race.
I'm the most vulnerable Democratic Senator up in 2024—which means I'm gonna need your help.
Can you give me a follow and retweet to spread the word? 🖐️🤙
No one in Montana wants the government telling them how to live their lives. But the truth is reproductive freedom has been ripped away and that ain’t right. No politician, bureaucrat, or judge should ever come between a woman and her health care decisions.
I'm the Senate’s only working farmer. I grew up in a 24x36 foot house. I lost three fingers in a meat grinding accident when I was a kid. I butcher my own meat. I get a $12 flattop haircut. My wife, Sharla, and I work our farm hand-in-hand.
Montana values are in my bones.
I’ll never stop shouting it from the rooftops: The disastrous Citizens United decision flooded our elections with mind-boggling amounts of money and made a mess of our democracy. That’s why I’m working to overturn the decision and stop billionaires from buying our elections.
Republicans have named me as a top target in their fight to take back the Senate. I’m the most vulnerable Senator running for reelection, and experts are rating my race a toss-up.
But I know how to win tough fights. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.
My name is Jon Tester.
I'm not your typical Senator. I'm the Senate's only working farmer, and I still farm the land my grandparents settled more than 100 years ago.
I've dedicated my career to fighting for rural America and I don't plan on stopping now.
I’ve lived within 100 miles of where I was born my entire life, and it’s an honor to still farm the land my grandparents homestead over 100 years ago.
Montana is the great state in the greatest country that has ever existed—I’m fighting to keep it that way.
Montanans don’t like the federal government telling them what to do. Plain and simple.
That’s why I’ll always defend a woman's right to make her own health care decisions.
I am so overwhelmed by the support you all have shown Jon and me since he announced his campaign. He works so hard to fight for Montana families and I’m grateful you all want to be on the team. Stay warm this weekend. — Sharla
I just heard from my team that Split Ticket ranks Montana's Senate seat as the only Democratic incumbent toss-up race.
Montana is a must-win state, but it's no secret that far-right groups will drop millions of dollars to try and buy this Senate seat. We can't let them.
I’ll never let anyone strip away Medicare and Social Security from our seniors. They’ve worked too damn hard all their lives to just be left in the dust.
Here’s your reminder that Tim Sheehy would strip Montana women of their freedom, carve up and sell off our public lands, and shutter rural hospitals. We can’t trust him to defend our Montana way of life.
Fresh snow, fresh flattop 😎
Love traveling across the state hearing from folks in every corner of Montana. Thanks to everyone who has shown their support today!
Every spring I spend at least two weeks planting & every summer I spend at least three weeks harvesting. I maintain my own heavy equipment & deliver wheat in an eighteen-wheeler. I buy grease by the case & seeds by the ton. My farm work is non-negotiable. It keeps me grounded.
This race is personal for me.
Most D.C. politicians know diddly squat about the challenges facing rural America. But I do, because I’ve lived them—and I'll keep fighting for Montana until I drop.
Hey Dr. Oz, I know it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff when you buy a farm just for the tax break, but farmers know an all hat, no cattle politician from New Jersey when they see one.
#PASen
My opponent said he wants abortion “all to end tomorrow.”
Well, it’s not up to him. And Montanans are going to tell him that loud and clear this November.
I'm in this race to defend:
🏥 Rural hospitals
💊 Affordable health care
🏞️ Access to public lands
👴 Medicare and Social Security
🤝 Our Montana way of life
Happy anniversary to my sweetie, Sharla. I couldn’t do any of this without you. I’m the luckiest man alive for getting to spend the last 47 years with you.
I know firsthand how important our rural hospitals are. When Sharla was diagnosed with breast cancer, we drove over 70 miles every time she needed treatment. You rip away our rural hospitals, you rip away a lifeline.
And my opponent's plan would shutter them. It's insulting.
@hankgreen
Sharla and I know how scary this can be, but having a good support system can make all the difference. We're in your corner and know Montana is with us.
I worked to cap insulin at $35/month for seniors on Medicare. My opponent’s plan would eliminate Medicare and leave our seniors out to dry.
Montana families can’t afford Tim Sheehy.
The Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade was the biggest reduction of freedom in my lifetime—and yours too.
Here's what we're going to do about it: We're going to head to the polls and we're going to vote for the future we want—because elections matter.
I bet you Mitch McConnell would be so mad if we won Montana and stopped him from taking back the Senate majority.
Whatever you do, don't chip in $10 to help us do it...
Did you know I used to be an elementary school teacher?
I know just how important our teachers are for shaping Montana's next generation of leaders, and I'm proud to fight for them in Washington.
Montana Tribes know they have a partner with me in the Senate. I’ll keep working to ensure the federal government upholds their trust and treaty responsibilities.
Here's the truth: We spend an absurd amount of cash on these doggone campaigns. And I hate it.
I've got a bill that would stop it. And I welcome anybody, especially my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, to join me in banishing dark money from our politics.
Thanks to our Inflation Reduction Act, insulin is capped at $35 for seniors on Medicare. We tried to cap it for everyone—but Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans blocked us.
I'll keep working to ensure everyone has access to this life-saving medication.
My opponent wants to privatize health care. That would eliminate Medicare and Medicaid, and kick hundreds of thousands of Montanans off their health care coverage.
Not on my watch.
Even entertaining the idea of gutting Social Security and Medicare is a slap in the face to every senior who has worked their entire life to earn these benefits.
When I talk about climate change, I'm talking about farmers struggling with droughts. When I talk about the USPS, I'm talking about rural communities who just want their mail. And when I talk about infrastructure, I’m talking about bringing high-speed internet to rural Montana.
Hoo boy. The GOP has already begun hurling attacks my way. Here's what I know: Montanans can spot BS like this from miles away.
Mitch McConnell can try to muddy the waters and paint me as someone I'm not, but our state can't and won't be bought.
I’ve got a real problem with a Postmaster General who seems hellbent on driving the Postal Service into the ground.
Rural America relies on the USPS to deliver everything from medication to farm parts to ballots, so I won't stop fighting for mail service they can depend on.
WOW Bozeman! Thank you
@alexismcgill
for joining me as we fight to defend reproductive health care. Montanans will always stand for freedom, and that’s exactly why we’ll win this race in November.
Celebrating 46 years with Sharla today. Happiest years of my life with my sweetie. So glad she struck me out at that softball game all those years ago.
Over a century ago, Montanans rejected the notion that democracy is for sale when we defeated the Copper Kings.
That’s why I’m fighting to overturn the disastrous Citizens United decision to get dark money out of our elections.
14 years ago, the Supreme Court made one of the most disastrous decisions in our nation's history.
Citizens United opened the floodgates for dark money to control our elections. This unlimited secret cash has made a mess of our democracy—and I’m fighting to end it.
I’m the only working farmer in the US Senate, and damn proud of it. My wife Sharla and I still work the very same land my grandparents settled more than 100 years ago.
They didn’t know the meaning of the word “quit.” And neither do I.
Thanks to my Inflation Reduction Act, 25,000 Montana seniors will see lower prescription drug prices.
Here's your reminder that my opponent opposes this life-changing legislation. That might work for multimillionaires like him, but not Montanans.
When Tim Sheehy calls to privatize health care, does he know what that means for Montana’s rural hospitals?
It means Big Sandy Medical Center closes. Barrett Hospital and Healthcare closes. PHS Indian Hospital Crow/Northern Cheyenne closes. Big Horn Hospital closes. PHS Indian
If a town like Big Sandy loses its hospital or its bank or its public school, the entire community could crumble.
Montanans deserve a senator who will fight for rural America. That isn’t my opponent.
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans just blocked a bill to protect IVF access—and my opponent would’ve followed suit.
@SheehyforMT
's new here, but even he should know Montanans don't want the government telling them how to start or grow their own families.
It’s now 2024 and more than 20 of my bills were signed into law by President Trump… I’m way out of fingers, but I’m not done yet. I’ll work with anyone to get things done for Montana.
Everyone should be able to retire with dignity and peace of mind. But some of my colleagues across the aisle want to gut Social Security and Medicare.
Not on my watch. I'm fighting every day for Montana's seniors.
Volunteers across Montana have knocked on more than 100,000 doors! We’re building the strongest grassroots team Montana has ever seen. Have you signed up to join us yet?
With only 50 days until Montanans start voting, we have no time to waste! I need your help to make sure we’re doing everything we can to win this thing. Join our team today at: .
🚨 MONTANA SENATE POLL ALERT
Jon Tester: 45%
GOP opponents: 42%
Political experts are saying Montana will decide the Senate majority, but a new poll has us in the lead against our potential Republican opponents.
Back to D.C. today after spending the weekend talking with Montanans about the issues that matter most to them. The best ideas don’t come out of Washington—they come from the folks back home. And it's my honor to listen to their concerns and then put their good ideas into law.
Thanks, Alan. Montana has the best ranchers in the world and I’ll never stop fighting to ensure they’ve got the resources they need to keep our families fed.
Two years ago today, my Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law, lowering prescription drug costs and capping the cost of insulin at $35 for seniors—all while paying down our nation’s debt.
And I’m not done yet, we still have work to do.
