He/Him - Canting Performative Fool
Promoted by Kate Salmon on behalf of JOE SALMON (Both BCP Green Party) both C/O 30 Latimer Road , Bournemouth, BH9 1JZ
Here is my brief life story and why I'm standing for Bournemouth East.
No other video blog this weekend as we're away (was not expected GE to be called until after Tories had at least one more leader tbh)
@DeclanStones1
@ZackPolanski
We get it Declan, you're really into bombing hospitals and supporting apartheid regimes and don't believe anybody should criticise MPs who feel the same way.
Do you know if
@CllrTomHayes
and
@JessicaToale
feel the same about breaking international law?
@Mark_J_Harper
@BTP
Alright mate, to be honest I don't care if there is a protest as long as when I get on the train I can sit down and it hasn't cost me £374 to get from Bournemouth to Leeds on a train that's 30 mins late because of some leaves on the line.
Just focus on that for now please
@DeclanStones1
@ZackPolanski
@CllrTomHayes
@JessicaToale
Sorry you're right Declan. Too often we forget the real victims aren't those killed on the 7th of October, or the thousands killed in Gaza.
Those in real pain and danger are the MPs who had to make a difficult choice between having opposing genocide or furthing their careers.
Just been told I potentially cannot participate or vote on safety valve nonsense when it comes to fullcouncil as we're in the process of applying for EHCP.
Fuckers in parliament have shares in private healthcare and arms manufacturing and bloody run things.
This can't be right.
I've never seen a child survive a 30mph impact without life changing injuries. This is insane.
@PhilBroadhead
will you have a word with Bobbie about this, she is on another planet here and really needs to engage with the research on road safety if she wants to have an opinion.
I just had to clip this and post it. She actually does say this. “I’ve seen children hit by a bus and they’ve bounced up and asked if they could have a milkshake please”
@AaronBastani
I think the difference is we are not dependent on the mainstream media for our support. We do grass roots campaigning and engage directly with people by getting involved in our communities and knocking on doors.
We are not afraid of the Rupert Murdoch or the BBC, and they do
@ConorBurnsUK
Have you considered writing to your local MP with your concerns? They should be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.
@hazr198
The mental gymnastics on display by people like yourself to justify more killing and prolonging the cycle of violence is astounding.
There must be a ceasefire, and the UK must use all our political, economic and diplomatic might to make that happen. It's just that simple.
New Special Free School approved for Bournemouth!
After multiple meetings with the Treasury and Dept of Education - calling for a new school - I am delighted to see Bournemouth has been selected as one of the 15 locations across the country to receive one.
This is great news
Unsurprisingly since
@Tobias_Ellwood
's blanket leaflet of our ward worrying about 20mph limits and saying people can apply for them I've had an increase in the number of people asking for them on their street.
20mph for residential streets can't come soon enough.
This is a really solid response, very proud to be part of a party that doesn't rely on demonising vulnerable people seeking vital medical care for a few votes.
@PhilBroadhead
If anything her background makes her comments less defendable not more, she knows she's wrong, and is still pedalling this crap.
I don't think you can allow your councillors to sprout nonsense like that with being spineless or willfully negligent of your duty as group leader
If anyone had any doubt
@AdamHighcliffe
is making it very clear to
@BCPCouncil
that the
#safetyvalve
scheme is simply a non-starter.
Discussing
#SafetyValve
has eaten up valuable time and energy which would have been spent acknowledging root causes and working on real solutions.
I don't always agree with
@VikkiSlade72
but I have to admire her coming out to speak to the demonstrators outside the town hall.
Far more leadership and willingness to engage with the public than we see from Labour or the Tories.
Very pleased to say that we're getting replacement play equipment sorted for Moordown Rec, despite the BCP previous leadership's crazy scheme of "self-insurance" for our new equipment that was vandalised.
Children should have somewhere to play. Will be installed in the spring!
Just heard from Kate that an email has gone out giving councillors blanket dispensation to talk on the safety valve petition and motion tonight which is a positive step.
Going to be a long one tonight I think.
@BmouthEastCA
Is prioritising having functioning public services rather than ensuring all your property developer mates can stay rich not the way you'd like things to be done?
After the shitshows that were
Future Places and Inland Homes I don't think we can take your opinions seriously.
My friend passed away Monday morning after an accident while we were together for his stag do last weekend. Still getting my head round it. No blog as haven't been working politically or professionally but aiming to be back next week.
@DorsetRachel
Aren't you campaigning for a party that is joyously celebrating every new Tory MP who joins them and wishes to continue Tory economic policies?
Is there a reason to vote Labour beyond their branding being different to the Tories?
Our unashamedly pro-peace motion has been passed by BCP council.
This is only the beginning we must keep going until all our political institutions, including diplomatic are pushing for a ceasefire and a long term peaceful solution within international law
god it's pretty dire when the CEO and Chairman from UHD have to turn up and slowly and carefully explain to people that NHS services and key worker housing are a good thing.
@BmouthEastCA
@WatersFloKinson
@VikkiSlade72
@PhilBroadhead
She's talking nonsense and challenging the patience of everyone in the room.
Is this really the path your party are going to go down? Endanger people by opposing straightforward safety measures because you think it's a vote winner?
Pathetically shameless behaviour.
Just had agreement from work to reduce my hours, should give me more time to focus on council work and finally start to balance work life a bit less painfully
@PaulKohlerSW19
@libdemlife
We just should not have a two tier system where the rich can pay to get better education and unfair advantages. Ditto with healthcare. Simple as that.
@Bmthgal
@JohnChallinor
@BcpLocal
@CalmHolmes
@Tobias_Ellwood
The facts speak for themselves. Only a few people could have leaked this, and the idea it was an officer is absurd.
This was done by a councillor, we just don't know who, if they had any decency they'd come clean for the sake of their colleagues, but I think they've already
@AaronBastani
Nah, I'm not popular online or in the national press but my vote isn't tied to either, it's dependent on me engaging with residents and getting stuff done.
Organisations like the Greens are potentially the key to driving change, it's why I'm so happy to devote my time to their
@BmouthEastCA
@WatersFloKinson
@VikkiSlade72
@PhilBroadhead
Even if someone worked as a cartographer for 20 years you are not obliged to humour them when they tell you Atlantis is just off the coast of Cornwall.
Being wrong with 20 years experience is worse. She is an embarrassment and
@PhilBroadhead
shouldn't enable such behaviour
@PhilBroadhead
Yeah definitely, I'm doing my best to double check things now. Do you think this website with a pic of Drew saying he is director of Bourne Space is genuine or part of this nefarious plan to smear his good name?
Maybe foreign ownership of key UK businesses isn't a good idea. Sale should never have been agreed.
What was the point in Brexit if we can protect industries like this?
I think what's happening in Port Talbot with
#TataSteel
is completely bent.
I bet Rishi Sunak is getting rich off of this.
Instead of saving thousands of jobs,
@TataSteelLtd
has taken the money and run.
#FolloMe
if you agree.
The plot thickens, sounds like Labour were happy with filming initially, and now the organiser has come back saying there has been an objection, I guess it's Tobias, be interesting to find out for certain.
You can't help but see that the amount of 3rd party contractors the council employs is a recipe for disaster. The council outsources street light repair for godsake. This means we've got no real control over the process, and we're paying for some fatcat's yacht at the same time
One of the dumbest things I've ever head in a council O&S session was that reducing speeds won't cause fewer accidents.
The evidence is overwhelmingly clear
Until I became a councillor I never knew you could have a job where you get to go "No I don't fancy doing that bit of work, find someone else to do it, but also you are not able to record that I'm not bothering to do that work".
This weekend I saw Labour's previous candidate for Bournemouth East
@Corrie_R_D
, and I'm very please she has endorsed me rather than
@TomHayesBmouth
for the town she loves so much.
Lesley suggesting councillors who type out their speeches take the time to time them is going to be my favourite moment in a council meeting for a long time.
Nice to hear deputy leader of the council being so supportive on 20mph limits.
Hope that translates into action, as we have several streets in our ward where the highways team have been clear they cannot introduce 20mph limits despite demand from residents as council is broke.
@JasonGollings
@VikkiSlade72
Mate if you're this miserable at the prospect of having to drive 20mph down streets where people live I'm not sure what to recommend.
Maybe buy a racing game or GTA?
@PhilBroadhead
@BCPCouncil
This is what people want, and what our communities need.
There is nothing to be gained by winding up the vocal minority of petrol-heads and conspiracy nutters who opposed these plans and something I'd consider beneath you and other councillors regardless of party.
How out of touch do you have to be to ban sex education for kids under 9?!
Children born on a farm know the facts of life before they can read and it does them no harm.
Someone's just pulled the windscreen wipers off our car. 101 totally useless, no wonder crime reporting is down and actual crime is up.
This country is so broken.
So it's taken two hustings for one of the other candidates for Bournemouth East to throw their toys out the pram and object to them being filmed.
No filming allowed at the hustings on the Wednesday 19th June 6.30pm, at the Quaker House meetings rooms, Boscombe.
Theme is Housing
@Bournemouthecho
The law needs to be changed to stop this happening again and recover the public funds. It should have no place in our country. No wonder we don't trust politicians when things like this go unpunished and happen time and time again.
This is the advice, not sure if as
@therewentharry
suggests that a statement of interest makes it all good.
How are we so hot on stuff like this and Drew Mellor could splash the cash to his mates like we'd just won the lottery.
@Bournemouthecho
More independent and worker cooperative retailers who aren't owned by multinationals which hide profits offshore and underpay their staff by design.
Something cultural like a gallery or theatre would be lovely to.
@AdamHighcliffe
Councils going bankrupt isn't a bug it's a feature. There is no way to meet the obligations the council has with the current funding it receives.
We need to tackle the root cause of this problem, and the safety valve does nothing of the sort.
We need a new system entirely.
@DanJarvisLeader
I also like to exist in an echo chamber and if someone uses a news source I don't like I shun them forever and encourage others to do the same. Only way to have a harmonious society.
Blimey mate my gran buys the daily mail every week but we still talk. Grow up
One thing is clear to me after last night and that is that the public need a way to better engage directly with politicians, councillors, MPs or whatever.
People feel unheard, and full council doesn't provide (nor can it) that opportunity. I think a public Q&A maybe? I'd welcome
@Bournemouthecho
I have a friend who was killed at 30 while on his bike. The driver never stopped, claimed he thought he hit a deer and only get community service and an 18 month driving ban. The law does not protect cyclists.
Very depressing to see an NHS trust the council is working with to build a new hospital have to put messages like this out.
@PhilBroadhead
it really would help if you would just confirm that if the leak does turn out to have come from your group that you will finally act.
It’s sad when anonymous “sources” tell untruths and lazy journalism
@Bournemouthecho
repeats it.
For the record
@UHD_NHS
paid market value for the site with no discount to benefit patients and residents. It’s good news and thanks
@BCPCouncil
@VikkiSlade72
for your leadership.
@DanielRoyParkin
@AlexMcKinstry1
@AdamHighcliffe
You are doing great work looking at this. It is terrifying to think about what could still be hidden and what could have gone on that we will probably never know about. We've got to fix this pronto as a society.
@AndyJon63142626
Aye, I was hoping to do that by sharing a recording of the hustings where I do just that. Bit disappointed to not be able to do it now
Landlords are a blight, they literally engage in rent seeking behaviour and are parasitic on our economy.
The fact they have such power over government is one of the main reasons we've got a housing crisis
How can anyone in all seriousness pretend that trans people are only just popping into existence now, somehow created by TikTok?
I've worked with trans people who are 50 FFS, did Ceefax have the same effect back then or something?
The cost of
@PhilBroadhead
's last minute suggestion of a referendum would almost certainly have been at least double the cost of the actual 20mph proposals (£149k).
No wonder his leadership of the council left it in a state of financial ruin.
20mph ‘default’ across Bournemouth?
No thanks!
Lib Dems, Labour and Greens voted AGAINST keeping the current system (that includes 20mph zones where appropriate).
Labour’s plan did not work in Wales and won’t work here -
as it will hurt our economy, cause traffic misery and
Can't help but feel
@PhilBroadhead
would have more luck arguing against the location of the traveler site if he wasn't so coy about where else he thinks it should go.
@Bmthgal
The majority of people in my ward want 20mph limits on their streets.
Myself and Kate were both elected with this as a clear policy goal, and it is a request we've had frequently since being elected.
Sometimes your social circle isn't representative of overall public opinion.
@Bournemouthecho
Do the Echo have some kind of diversity and inclusion policy to only print letters exclusively from people who have no one else in their life who will listen to their stupid misinformed opinions?
Just takes two mins of searching to see this claim is baseless.
Following the disruption of the meeting by members of the public, including a woman who has lost relatives in Gaza to the ongoing genocide I would have liked to have said that we cannot ignore those expressions of frustration, grief and despair they speak to our duty as elected
We are a barbaric society. In a few generations our behaviour will be as alien and immoral to our descendants as child sacrificing Aztecs are to us now.
FFS I cannot believe we're debating another last minute
@PhilBroadhead
amendment. This grandstanding is pointless. If someone has a good idea they don't keep it quiet, I've been approached for 2 amendments to my motion tonight well in advance and we've worked them out to
Today I spoke to one of our volunteers about leafletting
"Don't worry I know how to get into those flats I used to deliver leaflets for
@Tobias_Ellwood
"
Very good to see we're getting support from both ex Labour and ex Tory voters.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone buying 4GAZA, whether individual tracks or the whole compilation. So far we’ve raised an amazing £4640+ to help provide food, water, medicine, hygiene kits (incl menstrual products) & other essential supplies to the people of Palestine 🇵🇸

@DanielRoyParkin
@DaddyGardener80
I think a functional society can have positive net migration and use that incoming population to boost the economy, build more houses etc etc.
We bar people from working while claiming asylum for example, this helps no-one and fuels the criminal economy.
My mind still can't quite comprehend how the local authority is still struggling to close the door on the merger of the 3 councils into one with separate systems and processes etc still in existence.
Just not good enough.
Planning law is broken, no two ways about it.
So much of my casework is just people reasonably annoyed at developers building to designs that have never been approved and who expect action from the council, but that's prevented by our broken legal system.
This must be fixed.
@AldiUK
I'm not cool enough to know what you are on about, but please could you collect your trolly that has been dumped in my garden. I've given you my address and phone number but heard nothing yet.
@Bmthgal
@PhilBroadhead
I spent 4 years working for SWAST.
Last year I saw a close friend killed by a 30mph impact.
I have plenty of lived experience of RTCs and wouldn't wish it on anyone else.
This is disgusting behaviour from someone who should know better.
Thanks to everyone who voted in the

Alright mate, but what are you doing about trains, they're late, overcrowded and tickets cost a fortune.
What are you doing about rail travel.
