I talked to this gentleman at today's shooting near East 152nd and St. Clair. There are multiple victims, their conditions are unknown. His entire comments are worth a listen.
NEW: Mayor Frank Jackson says media IS NOT prohibited from covering events within the curfew area, despite police spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia telling 19 News otherwise.
Total disgrace of the game. This stadium has been home to so many memorable and historic moments. For this social media joker to stage this is appalling, if not disgusting. You let an entire city down, Yacht.
I wanna be clear: I don’t believe journalists are high and mighty. We are not above orders. We are not better than anyone else. But if news happens, we should be allowed to cover it. Actually, the first amendment allows it.
The
@CityofCleveland
curfew applies to journalists and legitimate, bonafide news agencies, meaning we are subject to arrest if we attempt to cover any events taking place within the curfew area. If there’s looting, we can’t cover. Other crimes? Wait for the “police report.”
Jack is 87. His wife just turned 85 and lives in a group home... which has not been included among the facilities getting state-coordinated COVID-19 vaccines. He can't get much closer than this.
Neighbor calls police on kids playing football on a residential street. The cops joined in on the game. Meet the 12-year-old QB who was slinging passes to them.
What have we learned tonight? That
@CityofCleveland
and
@CLEpolice
are apparently not on the same page. Police spokeswoman told us no media in curfew area, mayor says that’s not true. Get it together, Cleveland. Can confirm our staff had to wait for escorts to get into downtown.
This is a violation of the first amendment. Other cities, in much more difficult situations than ours, have realized this and have allowed for the fair coverage of news.
@CityofCleveland
is wrong on this.
Moments ago: Cleveland police chasing Enterprise cargo van through Ohio City. Runaway driver speeding through lights into oncoming traffic. Be careful!
Univ of Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino, in a story about sexual misconduct involving a player: “I’m just the basketball coach,” he said, in regard to whether the player should’ve been allowed to practice (Pioneer Press). That should never be a D1 head coach’s response.
Take a good look... this band is hoping someone can help track down their stolen van and equipment. It was taken from an Akron parking lot after a show in Lakewood. I talked to Marisa Dabice of '
@mannequinpussy
' by zoom tonight as they continue their tour with borrowed gear.
As media outlets, we have accepted your story pitches and “good pr” for too long... now pay us back with access to the communities we serve. The communities you’re accused of failing.
@CityofCleveland
@CLEpolice
Chris Miller was sentenced to 40 years for a rape he didn’t commit. DNA exonerated him after 17 yrs. Today the court officially recognized he was wrongfully imprisoned. He missed out on much of his own children’s lives. You can see how special his bond is w/his granddaughter.
Cleveland! Today was my last full day here. TV news is so unpredictable and the reality is many of us spend 2-4 years somewhere before it’s “on to the next one.” It’s never easy leaving a place you call home. Despite occasional trolling of CLE sports, it’s been a great ride! Bye.
I share this every Election Day ... this was ten years ago, covering now South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s first congressional race. It was a long night. My advice to young reporters? Bring a towel.
Will the
@CityofCleveland
and mayor Jackson and
@CLEpolice
chief Williams address the media ban? They haven’t made themselves available to the press, despite much smaller cities doing so in the last 24 hours.
NEW VIDEO: Lorain Schools have released surveillance video showing a lunch monitor pull unwanted food out of a garbage can, wipe it off, and force the student who threw it away to eat it. She and the principal were fired. Here's a quick clip with comments from the family's lawyer
Again, for my new followers: Cleveland police/the city have since said journalists are indeed able to work within the curfew zone. A welcome reversal/clarification to all of us.
12 years ago today a boy in a minivan showed up in South Dakota to work. I've since traded the van for "13" pounds. The jawline for a pair of Spanx, sports for news, my soul for survival, and undoubtedly my sanity for a lack thereof. I've seen some of the country along the way.
Hey thanks! Always appreciate a fan. But... uh, when that single source is literally a city official —who told us that ON THE RECORD, it’s reportable. Send me your address in DM, I’ll send a Christmas card.
@JimNelsonTV
@CLEpolice
Police spokeswoman I see , in looking further. Absolut doofus is right. Single source off the record reporting of such monumental news is Fox News stuff. Do better
Why won’t you allow legitimate, bonafide news agencies to cover events within the curfew area? You’re one of the few cities in this great country to restrict press, potentially in violation of the first amendment.
At this time, we ask people to continue to stay out of downtown for their safety and to allow our city vehicles to pass easily for clean-up and emergencies. Thank you!
For now, you can help by sharing our updates. We will rebuild, together! (2/2)
The Circleville police officer who unleashed a K9 on a surrendering suspect has been fired. OSHP troopers repeatedly warned the officer against releasing the dog.
Was just chatting with an older couple, when a minivan pulled up with a punk teen hanging out the window. He shouted, "Hey!" before unloading a plastic pellet gun. Not very nice.
I’ve worked at
@dakotanews_now
@KVRRTV
@NBC24WNWO
and ... others. Proud of the work I’ve done there. And proud of the fact I was allowed to do my work there. Cleveland will not allow journalist to work.
Cedar Point is giving its 150th anniversary celebration another go this year after the pandemic limited the 2020 season. Today they let the media be kids again.
She’s often mistaken for my older sister .... but this is grandma! She likes a Bloody Mary with a short beer backer. A break from her standard brandy-water. She’s a beaut.
A 60-second story:
@KerryMcCormack1
spearheads efforts to create safe passages on city sidewalks; this new ordinance is aimed at protecting all pedestrians, but especially those who use wheelchairs.
Fine I’ll do it. Almost 11 years, “four pounds,” one jawline, and a set of hard copy scripts ago. Little known stupid thing about me? I wear my original TV ties when I feel like I’m covering something big. A reminder of where it began.
Residential care is provided by outside docs. About half got shots b/c their provider has doses. Others have providers who don't have doses. Jack could, and might have to, arrange for transport of his wife to a vaccine clinic/location, but that's out of pocket and expensive.
Facebook told me I lost my job in Toledo exactly five years ago today. I truthfully didn’t think I’d ever work in news again, let alone on-air. This week also marks one year anchoring weekends at Channel 19.
A lot of people telling me they feel the best way to get their message across is to keep the focus of the protest on that, the message. Cleveland protests of course have traditionally remained peaceful.
The state tells me this particular facility is on the list for vaccines, but probably won't get them until mid-April. Again, there are alternatives for the families, but it would require extra effort and money.
This is the sharpest I could get from my video. Police are calling this an “Amazon” van, but that’s clearly the “Enterprise” logo. Perhaps they contract together, or through a 3rd party, for deliveries?
Dashcam: Rashard Higgins. Cops ask about the smell of pot, he admits to smoking day prior. They found a joint then explained they won't give him a ticket for that, just drag racing. "You guys are celebrities around here... you don't want that hittin' the news, okay?"
#Browns
Happy retirement to my mom! Today is her first official day of freedom. What joy it was to have her (back) in Cleveland this week. We ate very well, watched over-the-air TV on an antenna and spent time outside.
Interesting to hear Mayor Frank Jackson say moments ago the media are allowed to be downtown as long as they are working. Says he doesn’t know where this is coming from. Hmmm, somebody might want to fill him in. I know we were told none of our reporters would be allowed downtown.
You don't want to miss this at 6:00: The first Cleveland Clinic patients get their shot as part of Ohio's Phase 1B vaccination plan. This is 95-year-old Mary Kathleen. "I'm so happy to get my vaccine! Been waiting for this day."

Breaking: All sporting events in Italy will take place without fans present for at least the next month due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the Italian government announced on Wednesday.
I’m just tickled to death for my meteorologist colleagues who can finally wear green because we no longer use a green screen. The day is yours, friends.
I’m fine with being called a doofus, but absolute!?! Ouch. Look, you’re not wrong. In fact, you’re right! But on principal, this is unacceptable. Feel free to send your address via DM, I’ll send a Christmas card.
America runs by truck! The men and women of the road are still hard at work, but there are concerns with some of the ports shutting down. I'm live with some perspective from the road warriors at 4, 5 & 6pm on

In June, video on social media showed a huge group of people surrounding an RTA bus (w/passengers on board). Some climbed on the roof, others on the front bumper pounding on the windshield. Here's surveillance video of the chaos and the poor driver who had to sit back and watch.
So listen... as a taller fella, it’s hard to get some things in our camera shots - like text on a police car - because they appear at my calves. There’s always a solution.
My God. Found this clip from a classmate’s project. High school senior Jim - thickest accent in Minnesota! Also, I sound like a bully but I’m talking about my buddy. He got the last laugh - married my prom date!
There he is,
@JimNelsonTV
. Jim has never been able to golf in the
@SMSUfootball
Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament but still supports the tourney with his own cart sponsorship. Thanks Big Jim!

There’s something awfully calming about a late night walk, hearing the light breeze rippling through the drying leaves. Acorns plunking off the cars parked beneath the trees. An autumnal soundtrack.
