Medhātithi has clarified this verse, indicating that the numbers are not to be taken literally. Manu Maharaj's intention was to convey that the maiden should be significantly younger than the man. I don't think this is the best example, but your point is valid.

Apparently, Shankaracharya had a companion, the Malayali king Sudhanva. Sudhanva had an army of Nairs who protected Acharya against the hordes of enemy Kapilakas. The excerpt is from a recently published book, so I am uncertain about its accuracy. Any thoughts, @Devasakha ?

Kerala-s mentioned here are the Sangam era ones. Cholas = Draviadas mentioned in Srimad Bhagavat ( the tribe which King Manu hails from). Mushikas are Yaduvanshi-s, ancestors of the Kolathiri and Venad swaroopam in Kerala. Great source.
