Nottingham Forest have every right to complain. Referee Tierney stopped the game when Nottingham Forest were in possession of the ball outside the penalty area. The uncontested restart by a dropped ball should have been to a Nottingham Forest player. A huge error by the Referee
I was nodding in agreement with Richard Keys. I was aware of the two people receiving a phone call and instructed to tie the line and to quieten down in the criticism of match officials. The standard is woeful both in the middle and VAR room at Stockley Park. The summary of the
Goalkeeper takes out the Wolves player. Referee Hooper must have seen that. It was a foul challenge and a penalty kick to Wolves. No VAR intervention. Oh dear!! Not a good night for the match officials
The PGMOL must investigate why there was no VAR intervention on that challenge by Kleivert. It should have resulted in a red card. Referee should have seen it. VAR should have acted. Poor decision making
So that foul challenge by the Man Utd goalkeeper which Ref Hooper failed to award a PK. The PGMOL state it is not a clear and obvious error- Donโt pull the wool over the eyes of those that saw it. This was an obvious foul. Ref should have pointed to the mark. VAR wrong also
Is Anthony Taylor having a laugh. That man Xhaka commits his fourth yellow card offence and again no action from a referee who should be sitting on his hands next week. This Arsenal player SHOULD NOT BE ON THE FIELD OF PLAY. Klich of Leeds now gets a YC for a foul on Xhaka -
They are having a laugh!! No wonder we are in a mess. Howard Webb get a grip on your referees and get some consistency delivered by them. Ignore this panel because they lack an understanding of the law. HACKETT, Gallagher, Clattenburg, Halsey said โ Foulโ for the push,
The panel that reviews Premier League match officials' decisions has ruled that Anthony Gordon's winner for Newcastle over Arsenal last weekend was correctly awarded, according to reports ๐โ โ
VAR Lee Mason was at the centre of the controversy in the Leeds United game yesterday (sat 3rd)Today he is back to be VAR for the Arsenal v Man Utd game. PGMOL send him home and get a replacement in - now. In business we would ask is he fit for purpose.
David Coote is having a bit of a mare. Havertz should have received a red card for his high elbow into the face of Newcastleโs Burns.
In the second half Chelseaโs number 14 holds the shirt of his opponent then pushes him over with left arm. Penalty kick to Newcastle not awarded.
A Defibrillator was close on hand to save the life of Stocksbridge Park Steels U15 Player Daniel Lowe who recently suffered a heart attack whilst playing. Every club should have a defibrillator available. Start raising funds for your club to purchase one and train to use it
Where is officiating going when two so called top referees decide that Calvert-Lewins challenge was a red card. Ref Kavanagh in a good position rightly did not even blow for a foul. Then VAR Pawson intervenes. Please refs stick to law. This is not a red card.
So at Rotherham Utd a player runs to the crowd to celebrate a goal. He gets his first yellow card. Manchester Utd score and run to the crowd - no action by Referee Hooper.
The standard of performance by Stuart Attwell and VAR Michael Salisbury in the Spurs v Brighton game was awful and they both deserve to serve a suspension.
Brighton should have had two penalty kicks. 1.Clear trip on Mitoma and . 2 Holding by Spurs Langley.
I think we can safely say that VAR in the Premier League is a disaster. They should close Stockley Park and move to VAR operating in a room in the stadium. Team accountability, post match review, teamwork. TRUST missing, Accountability is missing. Clear and obvious is confusing
The penalty kick awarded against Newcastle United by Ref Kavanagh in their match versus Brentford was shocking. How can two elite referees deliver such a poor decision. Howard Webb should bench them for a couple of weeks do they receive some operational advice. Not good enough.
Howard Webb is now in charge of the PGMOL. One of the first things he should do is dismiss permanent VAR operator Lee Mason.
This weekend Mason lets another referee down by not disallowing the Brentford goal for offside. These are decisions that VAR should get right.
The turning point in the Premier League title was decided in the Man City v Liverpool game. 31st minute when Kompany went in from distance with two feet off the ground on Mo Salah. Anthony Taylor failed to red card the offence! City won 2-1
Football can be very cruel and sadly because of a few seconds of almost doing something naturally Nick Pope Newcastle GK misses a final. The referee was correct to dismiss Pope.
The authorities should delay the sanction to enable Pope to play. There I have said it.
How can Harry Kane stay on the pitch after that reckless challenge that endangered the safety of an opponent. Excessive force. Serious Foul Play challenge RED CARD -another refereeing error
Alan Shearer you are spot on with your views. Riley will never sort it. He needs to be fired and these referees need leadership, direction and accountability. Several referees are frankly not good enough
Jota with a raised foot that came into contact with the head of an opponent was an act that endangered the safety of an opponent and should have resulted in a red card. No good talking about concussion subs if appropriate action is not taken by the ref. Where was VAR?
Man City GK wipes out Newcastle forward. Nailed on Penalty Kick. Nothing given by Ref Atkinson, VAR Pawson clearly thinks itโs not a clear and not vicious error. Shocking decision.
Do we need anymore evidence to demonstrate that the officials at the PGMOL cannot operate VAR.
I thought matters would improve under Webb. It is getting worse and this red card is a joke and that needs to be stated.
Leadership and direction must be imposed on these officials
Overall I was disappointed with the performance of Referee Oliver yesterday in the Chelsea v Man City game. He failed to punish several fouls and he is displaying an arrogance that he needs to dispense with. Michael needs to sharpen up. I suggest that he is no longer our number 1
I am trying to understand why West Ham United were not awarded a penalty kick when Bowen was wrestled to the ground by his opponent. The referee should have seen the offence. VAR should have intervened it was a clear penalty kick
John Brooks the 4th official at Anfield today should not have to put up with the unacceptable behaviour of Jurgen Klopp today. The Law is clear and if we are to get improvement of the Technical area occupants then the law MUST be applied. Do not allow your authority to be eroded.
So VAR rightly advises Referee Tierney to review the red card for Robertson of Liverpool who is correctly sent off. Why didnโt VAR do the same on the Kane challenge. Both were red card offences.
Newcastle v United game is spot on. Anyone involved in football saw the push and at that point the goal should have been ruled out. Bloody hell where has common sense disappeared to in our officials? Where is Howard Webb, he needs to sort this mess. Lukas Brud you are wrong.
I am this morning praising the actions of the Arsenal manager Arteta. When the fan kicked Arsenal goalkeeper it could have resulted in a reaction. Arteta grabbed hold of a couple of his players and took control. Well done him.
I have supported the Owls since a kid. Sorry Ref you made a major error with the red card for Derby County. Take a look and Derby had a covering defender. Football is a contact sport and the Wednesday player went to ground so easily.
0-1 to The Arsenal!
Have to admit Brighton were unfortunate there.
Clear touch on the ball regardless of the fact he took Jesus out, not a pen for me but I'm obviously delighted he gave it!

When the football family lose faith in those offside lines drawn on the screen then the only step is to stop using them. Richard Masters time for you to intervene and stop this nonsense. Stop listening to Foster and Riley.
You are the boss - stop it now.
The Brighton goal should have been disallowed. The Liverpool wall was formed with 3 or more players. Brightonโs attackers were in the wall not one yard away
The FA have now given licence to a player to lay his hands on any official at all levels of the game. Do they know what they are doing? I do -they are letting the game down.
Well what a very poor piece of officiating, Millwall v Leeds United. Leeds will win their appeal against a red card. It was not a penalty kick, a clear act of simulation. Then to say it was DOGSO is just stupid. I would sit this ref on his hands for a month.
Watching WBA V Nottingham Forest game. Referee Keith Stroud failing to see, recognise and act on clear fouls. WBA fouls that should have been sanctioned. WBA break and go onto score.
"It's a clear penalty, somebody will explain the reason why it's not or Howard Webb will call us tomorrow, both things will not change the result!"
Jurgen Klopps opens up on that late penalty on Alexis Mac Allister.

Everton v Arsenal - Godfrey Stamp
Why didnโt VAR Stuart Attwell advise Referee Mike Dean to take a look at the pitch side monitor to review the Ben Godfrey stamp in his opponent? It was a stamp that endangered his Arsenal opponent. Red Card was the only outcome. Poor officiating.
So Arteta a master at getting his team to operate delaying tactics is now in the face of the fourth official because of Southampton delaying the restart. Sadly this is the state of our game.
I love watching the skills of Mo Salah. It would appear that The FA have decided to turn a blind eye to his act of simulation that won him and his team a penalty kick. The FA decision promotes similar acts in the future. You have a duty of care to the game.
Everton on the wrong end of another poor decision. Ref Barrot said โnoโ when Evertonโs Calvert Lewin was clearly tripped. VAR Oliver once again failed to assist his colleague. Come on Michael do your job. That WAS a Foul and Penalty kick. You let your colleague down.
Having stated that the first challenge was a red. The first in Oliverโs game was a straight red. Say it and we might get some consistency out of this group of referees. A red would not be overreacting. A red would have been the correct application of law
๐ฃ "[Michael Oliver] doesn't want to have a negative impact on the game by overreacting."
PGMOL chief Howard Webb admits Manchester City's Mateo Kovaฤiฤ was "extremely fortunate" not to be sent off against Arsenal ๐ฅ

I donโt think that any fan really appreciates the increasing amount of cheating that is taking place in our game. Feigning injury, going to ground far to easily etc. Referees need to put a stop to this behaviour that damages the image of our great game. Stop been friendly and act
I know it is easy watching on TV. I have to say whilst Oliver was in a terrific position to say NO penalty kick the VAR has got it wrong agreeing with him. Deliberate handball and City should have had PK and Liverpool goal ruled out
Well I am still coming to terms with the Red Card issued in the Everton v Newcastle game. Ref Pawson was in an excellent position and judged it correctly. It was reckless ( yellow card). So why did VAR Attwell decide to intervene. It was NOT a clear and obvious error.
Well we will accept the penalty. However the referees initial judgment was sound. No foul both players going for the ball.
Once again VAR incorrectly intervenes and in the usual manner the Referee goes to the screen and at a glance changes his mind and awards the PK
Sorry to learn that Liverpools Alan Hansen is currently in intensive care.
Such a wonderful player and a delight to referee.
I send my best wishes for a speedy recovery
Delighted to read that the Governing body the IFAB have states that the Premier League/ PGMOL are using VAR in offsides incorrectly. So Me Riley stop making our referees look like idiots and change YOUR mode of operation NOW
Disappointed that no one from the Referees Association have made comment regarding the punishment of a three week ban to a referee who forgot his coin. Are you an Independent organisation or too strongly tied to The FA and PGMOL to support a ref? I guess finance comes it it!
I always enjoyed Refereeing at Bury FC. A real friendly club. Before one game the groundsman offered me a meat pie. I declined. He responded by saying โ You should take one, itโs one less that they can throw at youโ. Come on everyone do not let a famous club go to the wall.
Obvious to me that with all the current errors Howard Webb should do a weekly two hour show explaining why these errors are been made. It is NOT improving and VAR has lost credibility because itโs operators are not good enough.
I find it difficult to understand why referee Pawson did not blow for a foul for handball in the build up to Liverpools first goal. VAR should then have intervened. The handball was clear. It was NOT too far back in play. Come on use common sense when making decisions.
Reminder, Declan Rice misses one of

โs biggest games of the reason because he โgive the ref no choiceโ but to send him off. 10 players did it last weekend without a card, and multiple yesterday. Looking forward to the referee analysis on why they ignored the rules.

If VAR is to contribute to overcoming errors then the Pitch Side Monitor MUST be used. Liverpool were wrongly awarded a penalty kick by the referee. VAR operator then compounded the decision by at failing to overturn the decision. Who do you blame for the error?
You were blocked off and was fouled. Referee must have only seen your reaction to assisting your opponent to the ground. Very poor officiating. You should not have received a second yellow.
Not even allowed to speak to referees these days but certain teams/players allowed to run up to them multiple times in a game with no problems ๐คท๐ผ
@HACKETTREF
watch that absurd penalty award at St James Park today and tell me you believe the Referee AND the Video Assistant Referees ALL believe that is a penalty and tell me this is โhuman errorโ. Go on Keith I dare you !!.
It is evident to me that the inconsistency of the VAR operation is spoiling fans enjoyment. The criteria of โClear and Obviousโ is at the route of the problem. The theme appears to be โHow can we strike out a goalโ rather than how can we allow it to stand.
VAR are you awake. Aquero Man City held back in the penalty area in the 21st minute. You should have intervened 1Check that Man City player is onside. 2. Advise Penalty kick and Red card for DOGSO. Referee checks pitch side monitor and should award PZk and red card.
I worry that someone is attempting to say that this challenge was acceptable. It was a foul and therefore a clear and obvious error not to award a penalty kick. A distortion of the facts.
Michael Oliver is our top referee. Yesterday he was rightly appointed to the big London Derby. His VAR with less than twenty Prem Lge games under his belt was handed the task of making the biggest decision in the game. He got it wrong. PGMIOL instruct your refs to use the monitor
The referee and his two Assistants have been brilliant in this game. Terrific decision maker from credible positions. This because he has read the game and covered a huge amount of ground.
Well done to the team of Match Officials. World Cup Final - wow
@HACKETTREF
Keith if he had headered the ball with same contact the same player contact would have happened so would that have been a pen? Webb gets very little correct but saying you need to go with infield decision is maybe correct
Players rather than trying to play the ball, go to ground far to easily. We need to get back to treating injuries off the field of play. Independent time keeper required. Stop so much time wasting. Fans should get value for money
No it was incorrect and Referee should have been requested to view monitor. The Premier League state that it was a factual decision. It certainly was NOT
@HACKETTREF
I'm not a Villa fan. I'm a Newcastle fan. But this is clearly offside. 2 of them in front of the keeper's line of sight. Thus made it Aston Villa 2 Arsenal 3 in stoppage time.
There not my referees they are managed by Riley. Some would not be on the panel if I was still the boss. Oliver was wrong to not award a PK for the outrageous shirt pull on Richarlison
Keith your referees have played a huge part in keeping Everton in a relegation battle. Lots of avoidable mistakes by the officials. Embarrassing for your profession.
I am witnessing the erosion of โFair Playโ in our game. Cheating is on the increase. Players feigning injury, Acts of simulation, Dissent, Time wasting. All challenging the referees authority. Issuing yellow cards is frankly not having the desired effect. Sin Bin the answer?
I am often accused of failing to praise referees. Sam Allison delivered an outstanding performance in the match Sheff Wed v Leeds Utd. Well done to him and I hope that he gets another game in the Premier League
@HACKETTREF
Hi Kieth, hope your well. Is there a reason why Mads Bech didnโt receive a yellow card (his 2nd yellow) for his deliberate impediment of Richarlison?
The referee in tonightโs game was wrong to award Manchester United a penalty kick. The player with back to ball did not deliberately handle the ball. The law in handball is clear, there was no movement of hand to ball. It was not a deliberate act. Oh dear what a referee!!
Martin I was at this game and his boss. He was near the halfway line and no way could he see that this ball had crossed the line. The Asst was in line with second rear most defender. He could not see. This saw the intro of goal line technology!!!
Newcastle on the wrong end of decisions again. The penalty kick was an easy decision. Shirt held, then a pus. How did Ref and Var not give a penalty kick us beyond me. The elbow is a subjective decision but for me I am giving a red card. The player used his elbow for sure. Red
@HACKETTREF
Keith currently we could have you on the show 3 times daily discussing VAR, never mind monthly. Another pitiful display today from offcials clearly out of their depth!?
This is basic law and a huge error by Ref Tierney. He stopped the game outside the penalty area when Forest were in possession. The drop ball should have been to a Forest player. Not the Liverpool Goalkeeper.
Mark i have looked at this carefully and it is a clear red card offence. Why Ref Dean and Attwell did not see and act on this is really poor officiating.
@HACKETTREF
Hi Keith ..can you get a penalty and a red card for serious foul play or because Diaz scored does it not get a red card .Liverpool game today
So looking at the footage of the behaviour of the Manchester City manager whose hands came into contact with the Assistant referee. I ask why he was not shown a Red Card. Yellow was the incorrect sanction. He should have been sent to the stand. Ban on its way a must.
Letโs analyse that โred cardโ.
Two laws might apply here: 1) showing dissent by kicking the ball away or 2) delaying the restart.
1) There is demonstrably no dissent from Rice. He flicks the ball gently, not angrily. There is no justification for a caution under this law.
2)
So the next round of the FA Cup will see only two out of the four games using VAR. Millwall game and Swansea game will not have it in operation. All or none is what I think should happen. What are your thoughts
"Proximity" sucks.
Even Peter Walton was surprised that VAR didn't advise the referee to have a look on the monitor.
Any thoughts gentlemen?
@RefereeHalsey
@HACKETTREF
I am bemused by the poor procedure that the PGMOL have adopted with VAR. Aston Villa denied a goal by a very poor decision by the referee to caution a player for simulation. It was a foul advantage should have been applied and goal confirmed. VAR is in place to rectify S&O error
So just been informed by a reliable source that Lee Mason has been appointed a Referee Coach for the PGMOL
The guy who did not set the world alight in the middle but was a survivor and was an abject failure in the VAR role will be advising and passing in his skill sets to others.
