A week is a long time in politics but 3 weeks feels like a lifetime. 3 weeks ago today that @GavinWilliamson & @educationgovuk threatened myself & @RichardWatts01 with legal action to keep schools open in the face of rising infection. They’ve just closed schools till February.

Today marks 8 years since Fusilier Lee Rigby was murdered in our borough by terrorists. I know the thoughts & prayers of all of us in @Royal_Greenwich are with all of Lee’s family today, as well as with all members of the armed forces who are based at #Woolwich station.

It’s been a devastating week for all of us in @Royal_Greenwich this week as we lost our great friend & colleague @GriceChristine following her battle with cancer. Christine was an absolute force of nature & did so much for good as a Councillor here in Greenwich.

Really pleased to hear that by the end of today, all 11 care homes in @Royal_Greenwich will have been visited for vaccination of residents & staff - a really important milestone in this nightmare. Most were completed last week, but a few outstanding tests held us up. #Greenwich

The @guardian reports Patrick Vallance said yesterday that this new strain was detected in September and by 9th December accounted for 62% of all new cases in London. In #Greenwich we acted on 13th Dec in response to the increasingly challenging circumstances we were facing.

From the #roadmap leaks, it looks like @BorisJohnson is about to send all schools back on 8th March. We ALL want children back, but last month the PM told us all schools were ‘vectors of transmission’. These are his own words & tomorrow he needs to explain what’s changed.

I completely agree with @Keir_Starmer & welcome any move to fully reopen schools as safely as possible. However, on 4th January @BorisJohnson told the country schools were vectors of transmission. It’s vital & urgent that he sets out the data to show what’s changed in 3 weeks.
