Today, over 250 Democratic Mayors from across the country issued the following statement to endorse Vice President
@KamalaHarris
as the next nominee for President.

The Hamilton County chapter of Moms for Liberty's first newsletter, which was posted on Facebook last night, quoted Adolf Hitler. Here's what you need to know. 🧵
I believe that's now four Democrats running for various Carmel city council seats. (Not including Miles Nelson, who has filed to run for mayor.)

This morning I officially filed to be a candidate for Carmel City Council in the South Central District! I’m passionate about my community and excited to give back. 😊💙

Today, Gannett begins laying off about 6% of its U.S. media division. Employees at
@USATODAY
are beginning to get calendar invites for meetings with editors and HR:
Today my family celebrates the life of my grandmother. She lived to 91 and loved cats, coffee, sweets and her daily copy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
My mom is my biggest fan. Every time I have a story on the front page of
@indystar
, she sends photos to our family group chat.
Happy day to all the moms and mom-figures out there. 😊
As we near the end of a long day, I’m angry for my Gannett colleagues who have been laid off. I’m also sad for their communities where local journalism is so, so vital.
Here is
@Jim_Banks
introducing Indiana and its delegates.
BANKS: “In Indiana we believe in the American dream. We love America and we love Donald J. Trump.”
Indianapolis deserves better than Gannett underpaying and understaffing its local newsroom.
That’s why I am withholding my byline from all work alongside IndyStar journalists until we see significant improvement in bargaining.
It’s my last day at
@ndn
, so I wanted to share this photo of 22-year-old intern Brittany who had yet to make a public records request or cover a marathon Naples City Council meeting.
I’m grateful today for my friends and mentors and those in SWFL who let me tell their stories.
*taps mic*
Friday, May 7 will be my last day
@ndn
after nearly four years. It feels bittersweet, but I'm ready for my next step.
And THAT step is *drum roll*
I'm moving to Indianapolis to cover Carmel and Westfield for the
@indystar
, a paper I respect so much.
Nothing is more frustrating as a Gannett employee than seeing the regular post-election social media comments about no results in the paper. I truly wish I could change it but I can’t.
My coworkers worked hard to cover results last night. That work continues today.
In 1921, Indianapolis residents who picked up a copy of the
@IndyStar
on the morning after the mayoral election were able to read about the election results. Today, more than a century and a zillion technological advances later, I opened my paper and saw a story about bird names.
Me: *notices my photo has started to appear next to my byline on *
Me: *expects to be horrified*
Me: *actually OK with it because then maybe people will realize reporters are human beings!*

@CarloniBrittany
, you are the mood.
(Definitely spit out my drink when I looked up and saw you in the background of committee.)
Working election night means I had a chance to finally try Workingman’s Friend for lunch. (Disclaimer: that’s a Taylor Swift tee, not a candidate supporting tee.)
Today is my two-year anniversary at
@ndn
and I can think of no better way to celebrate than with a zoning hearing at the
@EsteroVillage
Hall. Here is what's going on today:
My Hamilton County colleagues are crushing it. Here's
@Rachel_Fradette
and
@John_Tuohy
's latest on what's going on in Fishers and what that means for municipal elections in November.
Generalizations about reporters don't help anyone.
I've covered Carmel for almost 2 years, reporting both on Republican Mayor Jim Brainard's legacy and election wins by Democrats.
And I'll continue reporting on this community both ahead of, during and after the Nov. election.
Largely Democrat journo class is salivating over the prospect of Carmel going blue - but can't articulate anything Dems would do better.
Indiana Dems couldn't create a city like Carmel if their lives depended on it. They can only aspire to take over what Republicans built.
I've become the kind of person where my non-journalism friends tell me to watch a show but there's one scene in the 8-episode season that has an unethical/inaccurate portrayal of good journalism and now that's all I can talk about.
Every day I work in journalism, I’m thankful for
@NDN_PFisher
.
She took a chance on me as an intern and as a full time reporter.
She encouraged me to always keep growing.
Most importantly, she always cared about me as a person. Thank you for all you did for
@ndn
, Penny.
Roundabouts are safer. They're greener. They save hours idling at stoplights. And few U.S. cities know this better than Carmel, Indiana — which has 140 of them.
🧵Seeing some questions about how the
@indynewsguild
byline protest puts pressure on Gannett.
For me, my byline is an important part of my work. It's a symbol of the time and effort I've put into a story to bring information to our community.
Still processing how I came home from an assignment today to find my dog made it over not one but TWO stacked pet gates.
Did he climb? Did he jump? I’ll never know…
Happy Friday! Today I found out I won third place in the Florida Press Association's weekly newspaper contest for a feature story I wrote last year on a pit bull named Gabriel.
In remarks this morning at the Domes,
@Jim_Banks
encouraged the Indiana delegation to hold accountable the state’s two top Republicans that have said they won’t support Trump as the nominee.
(Mike Pence and Todd Young have both said they could not support Trump this year.)
I will be outside the convention center today for VP Kamala Harris’s visit to Indianapolis to speak to the Zeta Phi Beta convention.
Going to thread observations below! It’s really quiet outside right now - just before 10 am.

Our IndyStar Checks and Balances readers heard it first in this morning’s newsletter, but I’ll be in Milwaukee next week helping cover the RNC for IndyStar and USA Today.
I’ll do my best to keep things updated here but you can also watch for stories at .
Among small takeaways from Carmel results last night: I believe Anita Joshi's city council win in the west district means former VP Mike Pence will continue to be represented by a Democrat on the Carmel City Council.

I can tell I lived away from the Midwest for some time because walking through Kroger this evening made me think “Man, it’s like a hurricane is coming.”
