What? I mean, seriously, are you even a dude much less a true theologian if you aren't obsessed with poop jokes and dumping on the devil?

@DigestTom Luther and his inner circle did not agree to a consistent theology, even on the doctrine of justification. They were against Papacy. Thatโ€™s about it. Luther was more like a โ€œInfluencerโ€ and less a theologian. Luther was an immoral man, and obsessed with the devil and feces.

4/ It really is tiresome how lame this take is. It crops up again and again among those too clever by half. The "promising tradition" of the seminexers and the existentialism of the Fordeans both partake of it. Both streams also put the third use of the law in the cross hairs.

Great article for pastors to check out on the distinction between the true sin of partiality and the insistence on sameness/egalitarianism. Check it out!

Desperate to justify their hatred of those who transgress worldly values like diversity, egalitarianism, and antiracism, many conservatives try to cite Biblical condemnations of partiality. But Scripture does not teach what they want it to teach.

3/ Practitioners often focus on the year 1517 (Lutherโ€™s nailing of the 95 Theses and the kickstart of the Reformation) and try to divorce this year from its fruitโ€”1580 (the publication of the Book of Concord).

7/Not to take anything away from what many heroes did back then, but the Synod would have had an incredibly painful and difficult task if all those profs and students would have drug their feet and made getting rid of them as difficult as possible.

@PerfInjust Well, this is begging for a challenge๐Ÿ˜--I'll raise you the "Preface to the Christian Book of Concord," written and compiled by Chemnitz, Andreae, and other faithful Lutherans, and presented and signed by the Lutheran princes and other rulers subscribing to the Book of Concord:

OK, it is my annual opportunity to remind everyone---nothing much happened on October 31, 1517. :-) Seriously, we mark the day and all that happened afterward, but it is utterly and completely arbitrary. Luther had been moving toward a grace-based understanding of the gospel

@Ad_Crucem If you have a speaker, make sure he is either young enough to know how insanely messed up relations between men and women are right now, or an older guy who has successfully helped guide his children to good marriages.

Psalm 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, โ€œLet us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.โ€ He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.
