The reports coming out of Ukraine are grotesque, inhuman, repellent. Words fail. This is a Bergen-Belsen moment. Not numbers (we don’t yet know). Not precise forms of barbarity (limited details so far). Much more, universal recognition of incomprehensible evil. /1.

In short, the decision & timing lie with the Home Secretary & PM. At which point, we really do have to say “go figure”. Not about a Chinese espionage threat. But about the politicisation of, & escalating damage to, UK national security, by an increasingly desperate PM. /4. End

The PM has “been in this country” for the last 10 days. He says. That this should be considered newsworthy, is extraordinary. That there should be doubt about the PM’s movements (other than for security), is unacceptable. That we don’t know whether to believe him, is a crisis.
