So turns out this vehicle is 30t, so no falcon would even be able to launch it, as structural limit for all falcons is 24t What is happening is SX are handing off the vehicle to NASA, who will procure a launcher for it, but I guess there’s 0 possibility of a falcon Heavy launch

On it’s outbound flight, TAU would do a flyby of Pluto. After 10 years and travelling 80AU, it’s propellant would run out and TAU would be travelling ~0.04% the speed of light It would pass the Heliopause ~ Year 12, which is much quicker then Voyager 1, taking 35 years

I don’t get what’s wrong with SRBs on rockets. Personally I really like massive boosters. Particularly for SLS they feel like they pack a real punch. Like the two SRBs are equivalent to like the first stage of the Saturn V, how awesome is that!

Mars Lander WIP. Designed during the 70's after NASA got the go-ahed for Mars, the MSAV was a cheaper alternative to the MEM, even when paired with it's sister Hab lander. Big G is the crew return vehicle, so I'll be working on the hab until it releases

Newtons 3rd law - any action has an equal and opposite reaction. Rockets don’t push off anything. They throw “stuff” out the back of them. The action here is throwing a certain mass of “stuff” out of it, and since weight is a force, the rocket is pushed forward by an equal force

Call me crazy but I think we could do a crewed Mars mission this decade. It would be just a flyby, but I think it can be done in just a single launch. SLS block 1b, but the comanifested payload is a MASSIVE inflatable habitat.

NASA is gonna move to in space vehicles soon enough and it’s gonna be great. The Commercial companies do the “dirty work” of launching stuff to orbit, and NASA operates large DSTs/MTVs + Gateway + a moon base + a Mars base. Sounds good to me

This is my problem with raptor currently. It doesn’t seem to be getting more reliable. All SX seems to be doing is trying to increase thrust, isp and chamber pressure, without ignoring the fact that engine reliability is VERY important.

Here's a relatively obscure space mission - The Telemachus Solar Observatory. It was launched in the 80's in order to study the sun in more detail, however it failed a few months into flight, and never made it to it's operational solar orbit. Here's one of the only pictures of it
